A smug as----e I know who kept telling everybody willing to listen how he's not worried about cuts because he knows his value but also made sure to tell everybody to "prepare" because apparently, we're not as valuable as he is gone. I know he was completely caught off guard because of his smugness. I'm not gloating at his misfortune, I'm just trying to say that nobody is safe, no matter what any of us might think.

The first RIF our team went through after being acquired by Oracle resulted in 3 of our top 4 developers being cut while the bottom 4 were safe. We survived later RIFs because our remaining team was repurposed and considered essential to the move to OCI. Now that our team finished its part of the move it was eliminated totally on Monday while other teams that are behind schedule survived. Fortunately, because of our focus on newer technologies & platforms, a couple of my top people have already been poached by other teams in Oracle and others will get a big pay increase when they get new jobs. I do worry about the loyal people I worked with that were supporting legacy technical debt ridden software & got laid off. Their skills aren't as marketable.
Only Teams I know that are safe are NSG and ONSR because of the government contracts
Steaks are on the menu boys
Please stop talking about me
As de Gaulle once famously stated "Graveyards are full of indispensable men". Don't think you are safe. At the big red O, unless you are in the club, you are livestock. Odds are, you are NOT in the club.
