If you’re offered a job placement as a result of the sale, even if the offer is absurd, you are no longer eligible for severance. This is a lot riskier than layoffs or downsizing. They could consider an offer to stay employed at minimum wage to be an offer nonetheless and thereby disqualify you for severance. Leaves no incentive for people to stay after todays news.

Why the down votes? OP is correct that if you are offered a job by definition you're not laid off. You may be able to negotiate something but if it's a reasonable move, you may have a battle.
Is TB still as arrogant as always or has he been humbled a bit?
Tim Bozik mentioned there will be layoffs next year but we don't have details yet. It was mentioned in the town hall today.
Re “What news?” - POLS (the Higher Ed chunk of OPM) has been placed in “strategic review.” Time will tell if this goes Penguin-style (done and dusted almost as soon as announced), or North American K-12-style (dragging on for years).
