Thread regarding Schlumberger Ltd. layoffs

Burning myself out for nothing

It's not that some colleagues with more experience didn't warn me, but now I've definitely convinced myself that it's almost impossible to move up here for most of us, no matter how much effort people put in.
I'm totally exhausted and now I see that I was just wasting my time here. But one thing I will never understand is why those who deserve it the least end up getting promoted?

You are clueless on how this game is played. Did you promote yourself every chance you got ? Did you highlight your achievements instead of depending on someone to notice you ? Think like a promoter and you will go far in any company. Hard work does not really matter especially if nobody notices.

It is not worth grinding to move up at this company especially with their low pay and poor benefits. Keep in mind they will not hesitate to lay you off anyone at the next downturn regardless of seniority or skills.

Do not think about and do not doubt on your skills. Leave the company. You will find a better position with higher compensation and benefits elsewhere.

It’s at most big corporations. At my company, I’ve witnessed so many promotion to bootlicking individuals who don’t do as much work as the hard working one. As the old saying said “it’s not what you know, it’s who you know.” This is also reason I’m leaving my current employer. Favoritism and nepotism are the one who got promoted.
