Thread regarding Mattel Inc. layoffs

Remember all the jokes when the Barbie movie was first announced?

It's turning out to not have been such a bad idea after all.

I've heard the film described by people involved as "a nightmarishly woke art-house fever dream".

A trailer/teaser will be released either tomorrow or early next week.

The movie will likely be a spectacular disaster with cult classic status potential among folks who enjoy unintentionally bad films.

Ask Disney how well it’s working out for them with Stagnant Wars. After the awful reviews it will receive once opening weekend clears, Mattel will find a way to run PR blaming Margot and the director.

It remains to be seen, Ynon! Don't break your arm patting yourself on the back just yet. There are more ways this can go bad than ways it might be good.

If it sells more Barbies it has done it’s job. Isn’t that what it’s supposed to do?
It looks like it’s going to be like Free Guy movie, where the doll comes to life in the real world. Or at the end the reveal is it was a girl playing with her dolls like the Lego movie. I’m not expecting to much originality.

As long as they can resist the urge to lean into woke progressive politics the movie might turn out to be okay. My gut tells me they won't but I'd be happy to be wrong.
