At the end, did you come back to Ford or did Ford “eliminate your position?”

Coworker whose husband was a LL4 took multiple 6 month sabbaticals and her job was held for her each time. She was one of those who regularly called off on Fridays and Mondays for “food poisoning”. Aka hung-over.
Another coworker took a sabbatical, her position was not held for her. When she took the sabbatical she was a non-supervisory LL6, she was required to reapply to Ford and returned as a GSR7 in a totally different area and responsibilities. Over 19 years she has never been able to regain her LL6. She is presently a GSR8 and still lobbying for a LL6.
Use your spidey-feelings before taking a sabbatical.
Coworker took ~1 month and their position was held for their return.
I did for 6 months. Position was held for me and actually 6 months of work stacked up so I picked right back up. It probably depends if they want you or the headcount if they keep it open or not.
This should be a question to HR and your LL5. I, myself, did not but a LL6 friend of mine investigated the feasibility. The response he got was the 2nd one of your post.
I took one but this was about 15 years ago. My job was still here when I was ready to come back. I do have to say that I stayed in touch with my manager throughout my 1 year sabbatical. I’m in HR it this makes any difference.
