Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

My Resignation

I feel the need to post my resignation story as a warning. I’ve also told all my peers the story.

I gave my two weeks notice the other day to a backup manager because my manager was on another long vacation and wasn’t coming back until I would have been starting my new job. The backup leader asked why I was leaving and I explained workload, pay, culture, career prospects, leadership, technology woes, and stress level were among the main factors.

The next call I received was from a secretary telling me to pack my computer up and send it in to them. I never heard from my leader. I never heard from her leader. I never had any communication with the company management beyond that. I had worked for this leader for the past four years. I never heard from HR. I had won multiple awards in the past few years and was usually rated “better than expected”. I was highly regarded.

The point is that this company could care less about you. They could care less about your performance. If you quit, you are dead to them. They’ve demonstrated this over and over and over again. I made it through their weird video challenge in 2020 and had been stressed because of it. They are also not to be trusted. Be sure not to give them ANY heads up on a two weeks notice. They will cut off your pay immediately.

You all can do better. There are options. Severance is not guaranteed. Protect yourselves! Protect your families! Treat the company as they’ve treated you for the last several years. I received an enormous raise to leave. Best move I’ve ever made!

Welcome to corporate America. What happened in your circumstance is not unique to Allstate Companies move on, period. It's your mistake to let it gnaw on you. If you don't like it, then you probably are never going to be acceptably happy in the corporate world.

Welcome to Corporate America boyo! ThWhat did you expect when you said you were leaving the company and trashing them to their faces? A personalized request to stay by Tom Wilson? A 21 g-n salute? I agree with the other poster that there is a real ego issue with this person.

Do what senior leaders do, say you are leaving to "spend time with family", then all of a sudden show as start working for another company.

If management asks why you’re quitting, tell them that your job is so wonderful and fulfilling that you’re selflessly letting another human being get the chance to experience the same level of euphoria.

To some of the snarky commenters, you clearly don’t lead people. And you are also clearly Allstate material. The point was that I never spoke to my manager or that person’s manager. If my employee quit, I can guarantee you I’d at least call them, particularly as a long time employee. I’m not a grunt, I’ve been in different levels of leadership for awhile now. It’s odd the lengths you’d go to to anonymously defend this company. Keep working on that promotion, I’m sure it’s right around the corner!

You were like a month or two away from getting severance and threw it all away.

I laugh every time I read a post like this. There are probably 10 posts on this site about scenarios where an employee tried to give 2 weeks notice and was immediately terminated. Each post advises to not give two weeks notice. When will people learn????

Congratulations on leaving a toxic work environment rife with weak managers. You were not in Good Hands. Now post a Glassdoor review to let everyone know how bad management is over there. How badly they treat their employees is a reflection of their treatment of customers. Lack of ethics speaks volumes in how they run their business.

No. One. Cares.

Just one less grunt to worry about. And one less severance handout, IF we hand those out this time around to that particular area.

No f×××ing loss.

This leaders are very insensitive and don’t give a rusty sc--w about any of you. That’s right Eric you can’t deny it. So go back to your yacht and enjoy your long weekend. Let the peasants complain on this site as a way of purging the vile venom they had been shoved down their throats for years. Disgusting organization and everyone in the industry knows it. What bs do you have up your sleeve for the next 6 months ? How many more Americans will you send down the shaft. ? Congratulations OP for getting out of this rotten company.

Why would you get severance if you quit?

What did this person expect after giving 5-6 negative reasons for leaving? A parade? What an ego on this individual based on the attitude and self praise on this post. I'm sure they are going to be a real asset on so many levels with their new employer. The nerve...

So, OP you stated you told the “backup leader” your reasons for leaving. Yet you turn around and state “it is odd for an employer not to want to know…” Face it your feelings got hurt when no one else wanted to hear your reasons again….once was apparently enough.
