Some people mistakenly think that RIF is the worst thing that can happen to them here. No, the worst thing that can happen to someone here is that they stay too long, their skills atrophy and they stay in this miserable place because they can't get anything better. Unfortunately, I think there are a lot of cases like that here?

It's not clueless...the numbers usually come down from the top and it's not uncommon for managers to have no choice in the matter.
What a clueless, conspiracy filled comment @3obd+1hvkye3Z. Do you really think like that - if so, its very sad that you're always looking to blame others.
When you both are done self pleasuring, you might consider that it's often the case that performance is not even a factor and the people laying you off have no clue about you. I'd say it's much more common lately.
Agreed - unless your a newbie a few years out of school or an old-timer waiting out retirement, you should of seen this coming for years and taken appropriate career change action. Your professional apathy or discomfort with having to evolve your technical skills has garnered you the RIF designation. Good luck but recruiters are well aware of this trend as well and will categorize you appropriately.
