Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

I’m getting less and less picky

I’ve received a solid offer that isn’t particularly better than the job here, so I’m trying to figure out whether it’s worth staying a little longer. Are there those who have accepted almost no better offer, just to get out of here as soon as possible? It’s hard to start from scratch, but when I look at our leadership, I’d gladly accept a smaller pay somewhere else, in some smaller company, as long as it has better leadership.

I worked at Intel for over 18-years, I was absolutely miserable during the last 5 and totally burned out when I finally left. There was a time when I loved my job so much the pay didn't matter, it wasn't work to me. But I stayed too long and have lost interest in all the things that motivated me to work in the tech industry, now I am trying to find a new career path which is tough when you don't know what you want to do for a living anymore.

The point is, if you're unhappy at Intel don't stick around. Move on.

Silicon Valley is laying off people so be careful.

If you are miserable at Intel, the only legitimate reason to stay is if (a) you can find an acceptable/better job internally or (b) you are close to achieving a key financial objective (I.e. retirement vesting, rule of 75, 55/15, etc.). Otherwise, life is better on the outside!

Think about what you really value, if money rules all for you then go for it, be honest about what the culture and work life looks like at other places. You can get a feeling for a place when you're interviewing, and see what you think about the people. In my opinion money is important, but your team is also extremely important, and ultimately changes your mood about work.

When I got out, it honestly look me like 4 months of working at a normal company to get out of the paranoid Intel mindset. My life is so much better now, honestly it's worth it to move even for the same pay. I did get a better offer than Intel which was a nice perk. Only when I was leaving did my manager care.

I haven’t started interviewing yet, but I will next month. I almost do not care about what job I’m switching to, I just have to escape this soul crushing environment. My coworkers do literally nothing. I feel like I’m losing my mind.
