Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

BEWARE

I got a new job with another carrier. I called my boss today and gave my 2 weeks notice. My boss said she was sad to see me go and casually asked why I was leaving. I told her I got a job with another insurance company. She asked why. I told her the pay is better, which is the main reason. She then informed me I am terminated on the spot and cannot work another 2 weeks because I am going to another insurance company.
BEWARE of this rule, sc--w you Allstate!!!!!

It’s the pay that differentiates ALL vs their competitors, not the fact that they reject the two weeks notice. They terminate your pay on the spot lol. Nice huh? Treating their employees like they treat their claimants!!!

Most companies do not allow you to work but instead pay in lieu and honor the work. Knew about Allstate’s take from a former manager so really just half as--s it for a couple weeks and gave my notice while driving to their house to drop off my car

To the poster who said most insurance carriers do not use this tactic that is not correct, I have worked for a few insurance carriers and know others that have worked at several others and this is common practice.

It’s very short sighted and hostile. Most carriers do not use this tactic. It destroys any goodwill the employee had remaining for the company. There are certainly no “trade secrets” at stake either. All AS has done is create chaos and morale issues for the remaining employees. We all know AS is very slow on their feet and despite massive turnover in recent years, there’s never a body in waiting to quickly take over when someone leaves. It’s just not a concern because they’ll just split the outstanding work to other grunts without regard for workloads. And they also won’t pay you for increased workloads, which again, other carriers will typically compensate you if your workload is a certain percentage over average. Having now worked for two other carriers and knowing lots of people at other carriers, AS is dead last at handling this issue, as they are at most things.

Many insurance companies do not allow you to stay for two weeks., If you were in the office, you may have been escorted out. Don't take this personal. This is standard in the industry. Gone are the days where if you were there five or ten years, they have a lunch for you to say goodbye.

I'm so sorry that happened to you. It's unfortunate but she got you where she wanted you. Admitting to where you were going to work next. That's disgusting behavior in my opinion. I wish you luck in your new company. You will come out ahead, trust me.

Horrible policy. No one else in the industry does it.

the two weeks rule of thumb was more of a courtesy to employer to inform and plan to hire accordingly. you should always expect to be termed immediately esp for larger corporations.

It has always been the rule. It simply makes good business sense for Allstate and other insurance company.

This is a good reminder to everyone how Allstate treats people. Same thing happened to me.

This is common knowledge, and it just isn't insurance there are many other companies where if you go to another job in the same industry they will say goodbye right then.
