Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Am I being cut?

I just received an all day meeting notice for receiving a new computer. Every other time in the past, we had to choose which type of machine we wanted, among a few choices IN ADVANCE. This time I'm just supposed to show up for my PC upgrade. Doesn't this sound fishy?

My PC renewal today was just that, a renewal. Nothing to see here.

You see what the company is allowing to happen though? This is very likely just some d-mb PC renewal but people are tensed and scared because of this 25% bs, JF's talent comment and multiple restructures. A few clarifying words from the top would help but wallstreet is way too stupid to understand that not all layoffs are great and that maintaining a nervous atmosphere is fckng bad for the business. It isn't entirely wrong when people complain about this leadership.

No it doesn't. I never got to chose my machine in all of those years. That's for PD at least. And F is finding ways to reduce cost so you will just get the standard model. Don't freak out.

@nrm I would agree. My thought is they need to do something before the Q2 earnings release, so they can tell the analysts all the things we’ve done to improve margins, because revenue numbers are not likely to be pretty. Ford salary ranks need a 25% haircut to be competitive, we could lose all LL3 and LL5 and never miss 95% of them.

They now say the PC renewal date is now equal to the lease end date. My lease end date is not for another year. Doesn't look good.....

Wait till after Q2 is done. Ford was overstaffed compared to GM back in 2019 with limited reduction since then, so you should not be shocked if a downsize happens soon. It's not personal, it's business to protect cash reserves. I would guess 25% office staff reduction in USA.

Doesn't sound fishy to me, you're just getting a new computer. Oh, wait, I change my mind ---> you're toast!

If you are being laid off, I am certain that your first notification would NOT come from IT. The current process is that a laid off employee would then be given instructions for turning in their PC. These PC returns ARE NOT done by PCR or taken to the PCR facility. It would be a different building entirely.

In other words, NO that new computer notification is not tied in any way to a personnel action. IT skill team is not in the loop on who is getting let go.

There will be more layoffs at Ford not sure what % but more layoff. [I know from coffee table ;) ]
Question is for young people why would you work in such company to get to 30s or 40s to be let go.
I worked for Ford from 2005 to 2007 what changed? Just ordered a car in DEC still no build day....
Poor Ford management! Instead of cutting your people deliver the vehicles to your customer.

That has been the process for some time. You get a notice, you turn it in one afternoon and pick up a new one the next. Most likely no different than the updates we all have had over the last year. Then again, the company has come up with creative ways to ambush people.

If the meeting notice is for Wednesday, you are toast.

I also received an out of the blue computer turn in for tomorrow. At this point I don’t even care, if I’m being let go than so be it. Probably be a blessing in disguise. Mine is not all day, just 30 mins.

My computer upgrade last year was just a random notice without pre-select as they just replace with the type you had. No more getting to choose.

Guess when the date to receive this supposed new computer is? Yep. The end of a pay period. Coincidence????

I recall reading an IT employee post recently where they saw huge computer returns scheduled. (Which that it person thought meant a big layoff was coming very soon.)
