Thread regarding Imperial Oil Limited layoffs

Engineering Career Hires

Does anyone have any insight on the reasoning behind eliminating the "Engineering Career Hires" job posting for new/recent engineering grads in Sept and only doing job-specific ones?

Why has the recruiting of new grads dropped significantly by IOL compared to previous years (Other than Industry/Covid/Outsourcing).

@hlgw+1hq1sqHi I had the same experience too. The culture in imperial particularly in upstream is extremely toxic with insecure team leads and narcissistic supervisors trying hard to prove their non existent worth and value to the management. I was bullied very badly by my team lead and supervisor when I was objected to being setup to fail, and it took a heavy mental and physical toll on my body. Now I’m happily working for another company an appreciative of the culture here in comparison to IOL.

Imperial’s culture is not for everyone. I was bullied hard by previous team lead and manager. It was so toxic that whenever I recall the past I feel the anger and pain. I try hard not to think about my imperial experience. I’m so relieved that I’m working else where. In my current company people have been reasonable and helpful so far.

Younger engineers are leaving left and right. IOL has a great starting salary, but the culture is quite toxic, and management are hypocritical. The most ironic initiative was our CSF slogan 5 years ago. Simplified nothing. The only thing that is still intact is the safety aspect of IOL. TMTS is a drag on the reduced staff load. Middle management is penny pinching to claim effieincy savings for their own ranking needs, fortunately spending dollars in man hours to find those pennies.

What if a co-op would rather pursue other opportunities following grad, does the Imperial name still hold value in the industry? In terms of landing EIT jobs?

Co-Ops have been limited or non-existent over the last 3 years. Some are slowly coming back. I would definitely try to get one at imperial. As for a long term career employee option…..you will know if that is what you want after a Co-Op here.

Having said that, what about the students who are completing internships with IOL? Is there even a point to pursue full-time positions here after graduation?

We are following EM guidance to continue to lower head count and increase BTC and other outsourcing options.
This is not a good place for a new eng grad.
