I am convinced that Anthem simply posts jobs and then takes them down without filling them. I have applied for at least a dozen jobs which would be promotions to my current position and I have yet to receive even an interview for any of them. Be careful what path you start at in this company as it appears to dictate just how far you can go!

In most cases they've already chosen who they want. It's like there's a list of those who will be permitted to advance and those who won't. Sometimes they do interviews just to make it look like it isn't rigged but it's all BS. It doesn't matter if you're a great employee with exceptional knowledge who exceeds expectations on every performance review. If you're not on the list you don't stand a chance.
Some managers even sabotage their own high performers to keep them from advancing. It's all ridiculously unfair and juvenile. I've been here over 20 years and unfortunately I've experienced it and seen it happen to other employees.
Very few actually move up based on qualifications or performance. You might be able to move to another area with a higher payscale, but to actually progress in your career, unless you're on the list, forget about it. What's really sad is the ones they do promote are mostly a*s kissers who should be wearing dunce caps.
I've seen higher up positions filled with people from totally unrelated areas or departments. As in there wasn't a job posted despite there being a vacancy, there weren't interviews and as long as the person who filled it had the same job title it's allowed or so it seems. The person the job would report to just picks who he/she wants. Doesn't exactly reward those who have gathered knowledge and experience within a particular area with the hope of moving up the ladder one day.
I couldnt agree any more with the previous comment!! I thought i would retire from Anthem and you couldnt have told me I would no longer be there but I knew I deserved more pay. Accepted an offer at another health insurance company and they started me at $20,000 more!! I appreciate Anthem for the experience but if you seek new heights, gotta go to grow!
Don't be afraid to get a new job. Anthem was new to you at one point. Use this as an opportunity to move on and negotiate your salary. Anthem looks good on your resume, companies will look at that. Change is good.
These comments are accurate. Unless you're Non American or from the outside you can forget it. Head for the hills, run. There is no loyalty my friends , it's a one way street. Move on
Up to a few years ago you could move internally but something happened and they stopped most of it. I think it is blacklisting as the other poster said.
They fill them with people outside the company. I spoke to my manager about one that was posted in my department. She told me sure I was performing at that level all they need to do was change my position. It never happened . I was instead transferred to a lateral position to do something completely different and worthless. I believe some employees are black listed. The only way of moving up is leaving the company.
