Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

Why do we say that all the talent is long gone?

This seems to be the general argument within the company when debating the reason why things have gone worse. However I donćt find this to be the truth. There are a lot of long time talented employees still at the company and I had the opportunity to work with some younger folks that show a lot of talent and have a good work ethic.
I think the problem here lies at a different place. The company has adopted the culture of promoting the most mediocre employees to management level and that seems to be something that’s going on for a while. So, the talented ones are still here, they just don’t get to make the decisions. A sad state of affairs.

Because the talent there relied on others! They still do. And all you existing have to deal with it. The people still there DID NOT work before they relied on others and probably still do. (HR)

That was the reason I left. Very mediocre employees kept getting promoted up the ladder. When I questioned why 14 years of above average work, participating in the extra curriculars and the community wasn’t enough to be promoted they couldn’t give a coherent answer. Time to move on to a company that respects me and values hard work.

Their thoughts are, why would you promote the hardest working proven producers when you could leave them right where they are? Making money in bonus for their manager and available for their business/process suggestions to be ripped off with no credit by their manager.
