Thread regarding Crown Castle International Corp. layoffs

How are you all doing?

Just wondering how my fellow team members are doing amid skyrocketing rent costs, $6/gal gas, Covid cases on the rise, the highest inflation rates since 1981, etc. These are crazy times. How are you all doing?

This train ain’t stopping anytime soon. Didn’t you listen to the earnings call? Small cell deployment will be twice the volume next year as it is this year. That means we need people to work the projects. We’re growing. The train is going full speed ahead and will keep running until at least 2030 with the introduction of 6G after 2025.

All gravy trains eventually come to their destination and the passengers get off. Times are good till they’re not.

How am I doing? I’m doing fine. Crown pays me handsomely for what I do. Gas prices are a mere inconvenience and since I own my home, I don’t worry about rent hikes. I do have to worry about increases in energy, insurance and property taxes but I make enough to cover those.

Thanks for asking.

Why do I hear the Harlem Globetrotter’s theme whenever I hear the EMT explain how all is well? Meanwhile people next to me are packing their stuff into cardboard boxes and going off to different companies?

$900 rent increase here. They need to figure something out asap, that's for sure. Being lead by people old enough to have been able to buy a house makes it hard for them to empathize. For us millennials who are on our second recession and have never lived in a city where a $200k existed in our adult lives.
By most measures I get paid A LOT and half of my money goes to rent a two bedroom.
Something needs to change or they won't have anyone under 45 working here.

Yeah, we all trust what Laura Nichols says.

I was told on one of the “All Hands Call” that Crown employees shouldn’t be worried about inflation by Laura Nichols, so I guess we are all doing well. The point was made they keep up with the compensation trends and we should be fine with what we get, and to zip it.

Crown is screwed. We took on a ton of debt to buy light tower and now interest rates are going up. If we can’t refinance the loan, we will have to offset the high debt payments with layoffs.

Speaking as someone with a serious post-viral chronic health condition, it sucks wondering which of my co-workers is okay with me dying because "covid only ki--s sick people lol"

Personally, my rent is going up $600/month and despite my career at Crown, I’m terrified that I’m only a paycheck or two away from disaster. This rent increase is standard for this area and I could move farther from the office to find something slightly more affordable but would then have a huge gas bill instead. For those those of us who rent, I feel your pain 😢
