Backpay

Anyone know if you will qualify for backpay if you are still on furlough status? Laid off May 2020. Hope the unions/PEB don’t sell us out. Lots of folks furloughed first half of 2020 many who have moved on out of necessity, but still waiting and hoping for a callback.

Since raises typically occur annually on July 1st and the last raise was July 1st of 2019, then there won’t be any back pay for hours worked between July 2019 and June 2020 as we were working for current negotiated wages during that time period. Of course they can put whatever they want in the contract, so if you want to renegotiate your contractual 2019 raise, then better make some phone calls to the unions and the PEB NOW!

No doubt the furloughs were timed to avoid paying backpack to those people. It's how NS rolls.

The June 2020 backpay is what the railroads are proposing. Not the unions. Its at the negotiating table. It’s a matter of if they are willing to give away other people’s backpay. NS laid off well over a thousand from Jan 1 - June 30 2020. I believe the unions and PEB should hold NS and all other Class 1s accountable for these folk’s backpay and not give them a free pass.
