Has anybody here quit recently and could answer this question for me? My new job starts next week (it wasn't planned like this, I would have taken more time but things happen) but I'd still like to make it seem like I'm making an effort to leave on good terms. If I give a two-week notice, will I be expected to work for those two weeks? I know some people who quit before who were told not to bother, but that was a while ago. I'd appreciate any help.

Adjusters who I know put in thier notice and were not given the chance to finish the 2 weeks. Managers I know who left did finish
Morally? You owe them? Unless you have a contract, you owe nothing. You’re an at will employee and the way this company riffed people, you only need to take care of yourself and your family. Now, with that said, if you’re worried about a future reference from you manager, then that’s a different story. But you obviously got your new position without using an AIG reference, correct? If you can give the customary 2 weeks, that’s great. If not, do even give it a second thought and best of luck at your new position.
Legally you owe them nothing. Morally you owe them a fair exit, and giving them one week is more than fair.
I put in my 2 weeks notice. With the current situation, no one would blame you. I will start my new job in 2 weeks. I don’t plan to come back to this he-l ho-e.
Explain what's up, give the 1 week notice with the olive branch that they can contact you the week after with any questions. After that...they can kiss it. 😘
I can guarantee you that with the current situation at AIG leaving “on good terms” no longer means anything. Trust me, you don’t want to come back. Most of us are already out the door any way
Be honest about our situation with your manager. It won't be a big deal. Employment at-will cuts both ways.
