As the title states, is there a defined or standard notice period?

Some were terminated last Wednesday on a telephone call from a quasi manager reading from 1 of 16 prepared scripts, told to log out, leave the building immediately, tell no one, speak to no one about the conversation that just happened, just be gone.
Absolutely disgraceful to treat people in that manner.

How are people notified?
It depends. I've known people that were told and rushed out the door. Some were given a months notice.
Strongly "it depends" answer based on how valuable you were to the firm. Some people are given to the end of the month, some are dismissed immediately, and some groups are told their last day is two weeks or they have to train the offshore resources for weeks if they want their severance.
