Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Layoffs?

Has anybody actually heard of layoffs?
If so what areas and numbers and depts?
And if not do we actually think they are gonna happen and when.
Would be helpful for people to have a heads up and start on exit plans.

Question on prior entry:
“Already happening quietly. RIF in my dept yesterday.”

The RIF mentioned did it impact older employee(s) and higher pay grade?

“ Coming into today, shares of the computer and technology services provider had gained 5.43% in the past month. In that same time, the Computer and Technology sector gained 8.21%, while the S&P 500 gained 8.35%.

Investors will be hoping for strength from Dell Technologies as it approaches its next earnings release, which is expected to be August 25, 2022. On that day, Dell Technologies is projected to report earnings of $1.63 per share, which would represent a year-over-year decline of 27.23%. ”

In the past from executives :

“We’re also evaluating our business to make sure we have the right number of team members in the right roles and in areas where customers need us most,” Dell said in a statement. “We’re addressing our cost structure to make sure we’re as competitive as we should be now and for future opportunities."

“While we do this type of organizational review regularly, and while it always results in some job loss or restructuring.

As stated above :

We’re addressing our cost structure…

While we do this type of organizational review regularly…

, and while it always results in some job loss or restructuring.

Every decision comes down to
How much does it cost and how much/many can be cut.

Sad, very sad.

Dell should layoff everyone that goes on this website. That would be 2500 viewers divided by 133000 Dell employees = 1.9% of the workforce. I guarantee this website would be out of commission.

Gartner and IDC both said the top three global PC vendors, Lenovo ,HP and Dell saw shipment numbers retreat in the second quarter.
The U.S. market for PCs decreased by 17.5%, largely because of a 50% decline in Chromebook shipments, according to Gartner.

Every time my department has layoffs, they cut basically every single person in the highest possible individual contributor tier. If you are a highly paid, director-level individual contributor, your name is definitely on that layoff spreadsheet no matter how good you are at your job.

SVPs at Dell are trash and wouldn’t know how to choose on performance anyway because that would require them to pay attention to performance and potentially cut their low-performing buddies.

"Dell let people go just before Covid and then in the middle of Covid" , which part of this is not true ? This had nothing to do with pay grade and age , looks like lower Management are asked to compile a list and this list is drawn up way before the layoffs occur .

Worked for EMC for 20 years yeah there were cuts but not to the extent of the Dell years.
The cuts came on failed products and mostly on low performance people from what we experienced. Dell cuts on cost (pay grade and age).
To make the spreadsheets look good. The entire company is driven on cost of workers by HR spreadsheets provided to Senior VPs. Then they inform subordinate Senior directors, directors these are the people you are going to cut. Not performance based only age and pay grade. Terrible business model and employee work environment. Really sad place to be employed at right now.

EMC had there little purgers ( work force alignment ) most years and yes Dell is the same , they let people go just before Covid and then in the middle of Covid , this time it will probably be Sales decline.

Always based on cost (pay grade) and the age of the employee (older in age and you are targeted). How Dell innovates everyday

The low quality companies which add very little value and rely on murky business innovate in this way. BTW, EMC Corp was also like that. There is a less of ageism in the good companies with clear business model, vision and ability to execute.

The executives are currently evaluating costs, hence the hiring freeze.
Most likely as in the past HR compiled a list for the VPs of employees in their division with Job Grade and age of employee.
The higher the job grade and the older the employees they are targeted to be informed they do not meet the companies current strategy and will be let go. It is unfortunate but that is how they make their decisions. Always based on cost (pay grade) and the age of the employee (older in age and you are targeted). How Dell Inovates everyday
