Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

Reputation of Allstaters

I do not agree that our reputation is that we are marginally skilled, bad performers and that we have a negative attitude, as someone wrote on this forum. Perhaps only our superiors have such an opinion about us and treat us like dirt... Just saying.

Judging from the poor grammar and horrible spelling from those posting on this site, it's no wonder Allstaters have a poor reputation in the industry.

The people who are suggesting that Allstate employees have a bad reputation in the industry are likely from HR or one of the reputation contractors they hire. They want to discourage you from taking control of your own career.

If you've been with Allstate for less than 10 years you're likely in good shape. Your skills will be recognized as valuable.

More than 10 years you may have to sell yourself more and convince prospective employers that you aren't a part of the "culture problem" that exists at Allstate and is known throughout the industry. Hopefully you have contacts that have left Allstate for other, better organizations that could vouch for you.

Good luck!

AS is pretty tough when it comes to state compliance and regulatory issues. They are well known to be tough on their employees and remaining in compliance. Their reputation is that they do a great job training their people so most companies are thrilled when someone wants to jump ship.

However there is also a large group of older AS employees that are just waiting around for either a package or retirement and doing the very bare minimum.

I left for another major carrier. They actually pity the AState workers. They know workloads are cumbersome, processes are bogged down and leadership is inept. But they do value bringing AState people into their companies. It’s the company that had a bad rap. They know AState has the EC process for claims and they know they low ball their claims until a certain point. Their rep is that of a very cheap carrier who underpays claims and employees, always looking for the cheapest way out of issues.

I completely agree with you. Other insurance companies welcome aboard former Allstate folks. They are trained well and believe it or not, many of Allstate’s processes are best in class. The issue with Allstate is they are all over the place in executing them.
