Layoff in Tech

Team that deals with Hybrid Cloud. Outside consultants are already involved. Don't know how many people, but has already started.

My team is near this. They scheduled an All Hands meeting at a strange time.

My manager called me and said there was a reorg coming and that I "would probably be impacted". My instinctive response was to say "Yes! That's great news! That would be awesome!". Boy, was that ever the opposite from what he wanted to hear (my manager is a pr1ck and the only reason he called was because he thought he'd be sticking a kn--e in me and twisting it a little bit). He was not happy with my reaction.

Now they cancelled the meeting and everyone is wondering what's going on. Looks like the stagecoach got ahead of the horses on this one.

Just like Wagile WF says they want to do things the NEW way! Then people who have never done anything in a NEW way get a hold of it and pick and choose what they like about it. Then keep doing the rest the way they always have. Everyone struggles trying to put the old and new way into one way, projects fail but management keeps whistling through the graveyard until it’s objectively undeniable and that’s when they lay off the people who were doing what they were told while they were telling them it wouldn’t work. Clearly they are the problem.

It's all lies, people with "current skills" are never laid off. You have nothing to worry about techies.

Everything is being prepped to be self service for app teams/platform teams. Need less people as they move more and more this direction.

The entire group of folks driving the cloud migration are mo--ns. "Boxes and arrows" architects converted to "Principal Engineers" ..

Unfortunately it is true . The cloud team is struggling to move one application to the good . For the past 9 months, that is.

CTOs have come and gone . But the so-called lead architects have remained unmoved .

Please fire the cloud team because they are clueless. Not even sure how they were hired in the first place

Heard via the grapevine that there was a major accounting/budgeting snafu that resulted in a large issue from a funding perspective. First heard it was $25MM (fixable), then later $250MM (big oops). SOW people let go in addition others I'd presume.

Why would they get rid of hybrid cloud people? I'll be retired before we actually make any meaningful progress on cloud adoption.
