Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

Staff council and Legal

In house Staff council and legal in very serious trouble, with a Company wide freeze on hiring American Administrative Assistants and Paralegals, now all active in house council being told to " tie up loose ends" , the move to Local firms and sub contractors is in place to happen by years end . a very sad state of affairs.

@2adt+1h6xPhuQ ok Tom. Thanks for the spelling tip on a non-spelling, anonymous board.

Now, would you actually address the content rather than employ your typical deflection?

Asking for a friend….

interesting discrediting someone over a grammatical error. in fact, I didn't read anywhere the author of the post stating they were with Legal or counsel. I would probably focus on the "heads up" and Less on the autocorrect .

@2adt+1h6xPhuQ,
You have called it trolling. But you haven't said that any of it is incorrect.

The trolling here is astounding. You do realize that the author of this article cannot even spell Staff Counsel correctly. If he/she were a part of Staff Counsel or really knew anything about our operation, he/she would be spelling it "Staff Council".

I think some of the busier offices will be keeping their support staff; but job duties will be changing/shifting. It is cost prohibitive to send files to outside counsel from an office which is extremely busy with many, many attorneys who have many files

Which complexes/offices are piloting the programs for automated answers and discovery responses?

@1dxl+1h6xPhuQ, what your saying does make sense , but please keep in mind not all markets are created equal. in fact in several markets a pilot program automating answers and possibly discovery responses is already being launched ..... i honestly have no doubt staff and Legal in several small markets will be gone by years end .

You all have to remember the people making all these decisions have zero clue and zero logic making these decisions. Transformative Growth has been a failure and disaster from the moment the words were uttered. Try to make sense of the horrible decisions of these fools and you will just drive yourself crazy.

This makes no sense to me. Roughly 9 to 10 years ago they brought staff counsel on in subro a dumped most of the retained attorneys with no notice. The retained attorneys who are left can hardly get paid because the shipped those jobs off . "The right people for the right job" as they say. What a mess.

Automating some support functions such as admin assistants and paralegals, or moving those jobs to a most remote place (India) could be done. Look at the company job postings-there are none for legal support staff, but lots of openings for lawyers. But to think that shutting down staff counsel will get outside firms to take cases on the cheap makes no sense. None. Outside law firm rates remain competitive because of the existence of staff counsel. Eliminate staff counsel, and rates from outside law firms will inflate faster than gasoline prices. In tough times, lawsuits increase. There are no slow law firms these days; every lawyer is busy. There will be no caseload on the cheap. There will no voila. There will however continue to be lots and lots of turnover in legal.

Some Admin and Paralegal responsibilities are being reviewed for Pune or NI handling. It is still cheaper in the larger markets like New York to have staff counsel handle the large volume of personal injury defense, Subrogation and PIP/SIU matters. NY is still hiring attorneys.

it actually makes perfect sense, the layoff, cut and slash train has made its way into every station. it was inevitable it was heading toward Legal. get a few slow Law firms to take on a caseload on the cheap and voila! instant savings.
