Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

What is going on?

I have worked for Sam's for more than 15 years. It is the worst it has ever been with less coverage, managers quitting left and right, teamleads quitting and can not be replaced, behind on trucks more than ever before , no room in the steel. is this the same in other clubs?

As the week progresses, the days get worse and worse. Associates are having meltdowns because of the awful treatment by members. Believe me I don't blame the members who are harassed everyday to upgrade and get a credit card only to be waiting in huge checkout lines, lines at membership and long lines to get out the door. Corporate wake up, your ki----g us. Our store will certainly lose members when the new Costco is built. That construction will bring two Costco's within 10 miles of each other. Pretty smart move.

They put a plan in place to get rid of anybody who made a bit more than others, had health issues, or accumulated too much PTO.....in other words, the got rid of their most experienced core of people. They set up a HR model that depends on a rapid turnover of a skeleton staff. Word got out that Sam's Club/Walmart is a toxic place to work. Then the Great Resignation hit.

They got what they wanted and now they (and unfortunately you) are paying the price. There are plenty of good jobs out there right now from employers who will treat you far better and likely at a higher rate of compensation. Do yourself a favor and snag one.

Failure by design. Minimizing losses in an exit strategy.

Backroom peep, I hear ‘ya. Same in our Club. Ridiculous amount of freight. And we have been 2 people down for 9 months. And it just keeps getting worse.

Yes, it is the same in all of the Clubs. We have a skeleton crew at all times, no steel space what so ever and yet the trucks just keep on coming. We are at maximum capacity in the backroom and on the floor. Why would anyone run a business like this? Not to mention our pay rates not keeping up with inflation and now they have made it so that we will only get a mere pittance of a Sam's Share if any at all. It is a dangerous and very stressful place to work as a backroom associate. I am a long termer but the newbies are getting hired in at more than what I making after 18 years. I can see why no one sticks around for very long and there is such a high turnover rate. Pathetic.

My club in Michigan is the same. Our leads no nothing, and rely on the long term associates for knowledge. We are behind in DC’s, our backroom is a dump. We have no steel space to speak of, but our DM still wants pretty pictures of the floor and backroom. Good luck … we try to make it pretty for pictures then 10 minutes later it is back to the normal . Something has to give before we all walk out

Sam's and Walmart's have been in the dump for the last 15 years. Little by little the Walton heirs are ruining what was a decent place to work. The final straw was when they got rid of PTC's and gave power to team leads. Most know NOTHING and have ZERO business getting into personnel files. The places got a boost during this covid stuff and doing more with less associates. Look at all the heirs are pocketing. People like them is why our country is doing so poorly! The greed! Shameful!
