Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

Be Aware

If you are here because you’re contemplating a new job, make sure you’re aware of the company termination policy! You aren’t allowed to give two weeks notice. There is no real way to leave on good terms. You will be terminated on the spot. It’s a silly, paranoid policy that only causes further loss of goodwill, and dumps added workload to the loyal peer group with no time to put a plan in place!

The company feels like you may take proprietary information (lol) or not give it your all. It’s just another example of the out of touch leadership having no regard for the frontline employees.

So either hold your resignation or file for unemployment to bridge the gap.

Most states are “at will”. They can do whatever they want. It hurts them in the end but oh well.

Not true. They can terminate you at their discretion. Even if you don’t tell them you’re going to a competitor…

Why do you need to tell Allstate where your going whether it be a competitor or not? It's really not their business where your going or what you will be doing. Am I wrong?

Well Mr./Ms.HR either you are full of caca or you don't know what is going on in different areas. My area does not honor 2 week or any other notices so know what you are talking about before making broad statements.

@1wwa+1h597zpx I am in HR and what you said IS NOT HR policy at all UNLESS you are going to a competitor.

In the past month I have had 3 friends that have left us and gone to different companies, none were competitors and they gave varying lengths of notice from 2-4 weeks.

A year or so ago I did know a person that was leaving but was not going to a competitor, but when notice was given said that was where the job was since the new place wanted the start date ASAP.

Terminating a person immediately instead of allowing them to give 2 weeks notice often makes things messy from the Allstate side.

If you are going to a competitor then it is immediate termination, if you are leaving for a different industry then you get 2 weeks

The silly part is they are not only screwing over the employee who left but also the people who stayed!! What kind of message is that?

I tried to give two weeks notice. I also put in extra hours (even more than usual which was already a lot) so my claims would be in good shape. Three days before I gave notice I had a substantial amount of work dumped on me and was told to figure out “a plan” to manage it. As stated by others here, when I gave notice I was immediately terminated because I went to a competitor. Too bad for me and too bad for my coworkers, I guess.

Our area does not allow notices. We are termed immediately if we give one.

A co worker and I also tried to give two week notice and were terminated that day. It’s in the Hr policy. But yes that manager was probably also being a d—-.

A coworker and I both gave 4 week notices, and we worked them without an issue. It must depend on your manager, as this is not true.

Yes. More and more areas did away with allowing 2 two week notice during the mass departures in early and mid 2021 as they assumed most leaving were going to competitors. Since the company feels that they don't owe you the courtesy don't try to give them the courtesy of a two week notice. Also the quicker they can get you off the books that is one tiny step closer to meeting transformative growth eliminations. They want you gone and will not grant a two week notice anymore in most cases. I know of 4 peers over the last year or so that gave two week notices, none were going to competitors (or at least didn't reveal they were) and each one was terminated that day and all four for cause per their termination documentation. A dirty sleazy organization
