Thread regarding Follett layoffs

Communique

When do you think we'll get our next Communique? I thought it was supposed to be every month so we'd have a clue what was going on. This is just like what happened with JH-they let us know what's going on for a while and then just get lazy. Maybe the PE is already planning on selling. Also we didn't get our hours for June until less than a week-I thought for sure there would be layoffs!

Any gossip or layoffs anyone? I would love to have a clue to what is going on, and we can't get it anywhere else.

How rude! Well, consider yourself lucky. Hopefully, you can collect some unemployment or get a better job! If you are getting let go, you were probably here for a long time and loyal to the company, and the job search will be rough. It was probably due to salary that you are getting let go, but soon you will see that your replacement is making more than you, and will wait a whole week before "quiet quitting." Of course your boss will get a nice bonus!

The new management has shuffled the deck chairs, put some new programs in place and modified some technology. The test will be in 7 weeks when students return for the fall semester. Will students, parents and campus programs return or will we see a continuation of the decline that has plagued the company in the past.

Go back? Now that's funny! There's an old saying, "there's a reason why you left in the first place." Why the he-l would you want to go back? I truly can't stop laughing, thank you for making my day! 🤣

HAHAHAHAHA…I can’t imagine ANYONE that is gone wishing they could be back unless you love working harder for less and not being paid a fair wage (or consistent bonuses). Being away from Follett has been the BEST decision ever! Glad things seem to be going good for those remaining though. Just remember that it all crashes at some point. Keep going more financial aid!!!!

Leadership conference. In flight suits? Well there you have it and Bob's your Uncle.
Reminds me of when CF wore his pirate outfit on talk like a pirate day.
At least a few people are having fun. Wish I hadn't been RIF'ed so I could be around having some fun too.

Well they're definitely not getting their money's worth with reinvesting in IT, considering our systems are down virtually every day at this point.

They are reinvesting in IT, you are starting to see leader refreshes with POS development and network infrastructure. These are large dollar salary departments a company that was trying to look profitable would leave outsourced. Feels like ownership is in it for the medium haul at least…

Just remember the future of the company is probably only know by a handful of people...
Make a go of it, make it profitable - ROI for investors?
Make it look profitable and sell it off in bits and pieces or a lump sum sale - ROI for investors?
Who knows? Glad the Family divested themselves from the enterprise - they were the most of incompetent owners! Other than playing big shot and hiring their buddies they did nothing but run the company into the ground.

And folks, that is why we have had an average of 250 jobs postings for the past 5 years. We are expendable...just not replaceable!

At follett, a leadership meeting would mean an empty room. More than 10 years of leaderless failure.
Sounds like same stuff different ownership.

I hate to break it to you, but SMs are NOT company/corporate leaders. And I'm saying this as an SM myself. SMs are essentially the grunts of this organization. The sooner you realize that, the sooner things might start to make sense to you. I'm sorry that you're having to find this out through a random layoff website, but sometimes hard truths come from unexpected places, I suppose.

SMs are not leadership positions in this organization. This is why you're expendable. You're there to do what you're told and follow the company policies. The sooner you come to terms with this, the better off you'll be.

So, there it is. The words that finally back up the action and attitude. "Well, it's a leadership conference. So, yeah, obviously not everyone would be going lol." Meaning - store managers are not considered leaders! Good to know...Good to know...Good to know!

I'd like to think that no news is good news, but the cynic in me knows that this isn't always the case with this company.

I'd be surprised to see layoffs this soon after the last round unless they're from store closings. I do think we'll start to see more unprofitable stores closings, so if you're in one of those, I'd be a little worried. Otherwise, who else is there to lay off, really?
