Thread regarding Windstream Corp. layoffs

The "U" word

Maybe its time to start thinking about what collective action can do for us. People repeat "If you don't like it just leave" and they say it over and over again like it will save them from their misery. But instead I think its time to band together. If you are wondering about how or where to start, learn your rights and start getting to know your team members. A close bond with your teammates will make it easier to work together. They want us to have closer collaboration lets make them eat those words!

Uneducated and unskilled starting workers are typically starting at $16/hour in any industry as of late. Windstream is now trying to hire High School graduates to replace technicians with who have years of experience - main reason for the plea for collaboration - to train your replacement.
The majority of Windstream managers lack higher education. Also only Windstream management is seeing significant salary adjustments. I suggest ALL individual contributors within Windstream form a union - not just the field technicians. AOC and Bernie would likely cheer you on and support this effort

I worked in a non union clec area.
I made $28 as a bst, i was there for 18 years, started at $13.50
Got laid off new job pays $25 but no insurance.

What would the union get you that you don't already have except dues?
The telecom world is changing rapidly. Fiber and wireless are going to take over everything, wont need as many techs. Can outsource support from around the globe, and to honest, most of the asian support i deal with are better. More polite, eager to please.

I have a friend who is works for AT&T, and is a CWA union rep. Says it takes 75% of the people to want to unionize.

It's tempting. I know we have that level of support among the CLEC techs in my state. Without a doubt. Guaranteed.

I’m surprised this post hasn’t been deleted yet. Every time someone’s brings this up the post disappears.
Unions are terrible for happy employees in a company that cares. Windstream isn’t one of these companies.

It’s too late for me. I’m nearly out the door training on the job for my next one. Wonder how long it will take them to notice I stopped producing. I’ve watched people pull this game for a year.
