Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Is anyone happy with their manager?

The main reason I'm leaving my job here is my manager. That person is anything but competent to be a manager, but that's another story. I wonder if there are still any good managers at Sam's at all? Is there anyone here who can say that his or her manager is doing a great job?

All I can say is the younger the manager, the worse he/she appears to be. You know you don't get respect automatically because you are a manger. Respect needs to be earned. We only have one manager who is works hard and it is a woman. She has been with the company for over 25 years. She is a straight shooter and tells you like it is. I respect her for that. As far as the "boys" club, not so much. The manager over the evening merchandisers is an odd duck. I try to avoid him as much as possible.

I've been with Sam's for nearly 30 years. The first two managers (the first 6 or 7 years) were helpful, understanding and actually came out of their office to greet members. They switched managers out every 2 to 4 years. The managers, team leads, associates....gradually started having issues with everything. Lack of customer service, too busy trying to find a mate, too few people actually working and racism (of all types)! We've had the same manager for about 7 or 8 years and he sicks his minions on those he thinks should be gone. Whether it's to place someone else in a position or to save money...which is usually the case. I'm only here for a short while longer and I would never suggest anyone work for this place, these days. Since Walton heirs have taken over, the places are going down hill and have only been making more money recently due to the pandemic. It simply is not the place it used to be. For you naysayers out there...I'm fortunate to be able to leave soon. I wish you all the best and really suggest that given an alternative opportunity, you take it! You can get benefits at most jobs!

"Great job" no, but they do try. Been with the company almost 10 years. Had every manager in my building an then some. Current one tries but is in over their head at times. I help them as much as I can, but I can only do so much. Least they are realistic at times and we tell each other "we can only do so much." That's the reason why I do really try and help them, they still understand being a human being. I'm a merch TL, but at times MSS, cart pusher, receiving, etc etc. All clubs are hurting on the staffing part, then compounded by the growth of business. Managers should be at least mildly understanding of this.
