I'll resign soon. There are many reasons for this, and now there is another reason - I don't want to work with the greatest mediocrities. Their approach to layoffs is awful. As if they were guided by some rule that mediocrities should be kept, and people with skills laid off?

Amazon "unioned up" in one place in NY. In the other location, Union was voted down.
But don't let the truth get in the way of you narrative.
Wake up

Can one ask for a layoff?
As a former employee of Sprint before the merger, I definitely feel for you. I left on my own terms in 2018 after 21 years of constant layoffs and always wondering if I would have a job next month. If you live in the KC area, you might want to consider looking at Honeywell. They are hiring lots of people. If you are an Analyst, IT, Program Manager, Project Manager among other specialities, there are plenty of jobs for you. I left Sprint for Honeywell and have never been happier. Never any layoffs and love working there. A night and day difference in how in my outlook on work and life balance.

Development is going to India. Customer Support to The Philippines. Not quite sure WTF the centers of excellence are going to do...
OP, you have hurt my feelings. I've asked 5 times this year to be laid off and have been denied. Fortunately I think my wish will be granted soon as my department is gradually offshoring positions in my department to India.
