Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Feeling relief after getting laid off?

I was quite upset when I found out that I am not needed here anymore, but now I'm already starting to feel better. In fact, I never even imagined that layoff would bring me some relief. Life goes on.

@1emt+1gy82fzH - have you not actually watched how the market has moved since the start of the year?!?! "Sucktastic" is far, far too mild of a description

I'm happy to be retired a year now. I will say, despite this sh---y approach now and SRD before, I always thought Ford was a decent place to work in general. I knew several people that left and returned saying other companies were harder to work for.

However, this continued "cut our way to profit" mentality just won't go away and I expect this to have lousy results as prior attempts

Learn how to invest in stocks, ETFs and bonds. Take new education and get a job at a bank or brokerage, you're not going to out source your own household. I know guys that worked at banks/brokerages and retired by 40. Even if you start small you will have more control over your life.

It can be an opportunity to move on to something better or different that you might have wanted but didn't have the chance to pursue before

A family friend from years ago got laid off from GM & instead of going back to work for someone else, he started his own business... he's still in business for himself & seems to be doing quite well...

I was laid off in the 2019 SRD reductions as a Ford veteran. My organization restructured all the LL4s to get remapped to themselves so none of them would be released and then they took the layoffs throughout the rest of the organization (LL5, LL6, and GSRs). I assure you “life after Ford” is so much better. It was a blessing in disguise for me. I assure you there are plenty of other companies with far better leadership out there that treat their employees and organizations better. It is also an opportunity to recalibrate what is important to you (better work life balance and reduced stress) and target getting a new job that allows you to meet these goals. Don’t worry with your experience you will be marketable! Just as an extra bonus I, my family, and friends will never drive a Ford ever again once my lease is up this year :-). Good luck!
