Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Are the latest rounds of layoffs done for now?

Just found out about the 580 through this website. So were the one's affected informed by this past Friday or will they continue to notify this upcoming week?

I am getting really nervous and a little sick and tired on the uncertainty.

To those affected, I hope they find something (which shouldn't be very difficult since a ton of companies seem to be hiring).

Why do you all call it a layoff? That implies a potential call back to work. Calling it a layoff makes Ford appear kinder. Call it what it is.

Who cares what employees drive? If Ford made a quality product that people wanted to drive, people would buy it. I would rather have competent, productive employees who drive Toyotas and Hondas, than bitter sloths just showing up to collect paychecks all the while driving a Ford with a bumper sticker “I work at Ford I drive a Ford”.
At least the engineers driving Toyotas and Hondas have a daily example of well engineered products to model.

No, the cuts are not done. Back in the 2000s the number of salaried employees was between 17-20k in NA. That was then. As soon as Mexico is up to speed the balance of the older commodities engineering will go south. So, there is no such thing as I am safe. Just look at how the last two packages were rolled out LL3 on down.
I feel terrible for those on the cusp of reaching their 30 years or 55 years of age. And anyone who like to see people get laid off are sick in the head.
Some of these people are locked in maybe because of divorce or something else. So, for them I hope you can make it. Getting back to Mexico the company has been staffing up down there for nearly 20 years. Body interior and exterior, EESE, PTI.. Right now NA does the up front work. then "P" release Mexico takes over. Even the buyers for OPD are Mexican. It is only a matter of time. As for driving a different make of car. Its my money I will drive what I want. After watching the benefits erode Its time to buy what fits my need.

If the rank and file drive a non-Ford, I understand. They are just trying to make ends meet. However, there are LL6s driving new foreign cars to work every day. If Ford is paying for their overseas vacations, the least they could do is drive the product of their employer. I am sure their neighbors in Royal Oak are well aware of what they drive and who they work for.

@1chu Why would I be loyal to a company that is not loyal to you? Ford got rid of their car line. Ford can't build a vehicle w/o having multiple recalls on them. Ford's senior management insults their workforce. Ford's manglement (I don't dare call them leadership) is as clueless as a blind man searching for a black cat in a dark room. Ford's manglement idea of getting back to profitability is to reduce their workforce instead of building quality vehicles.

So please tell me why I should by a Fraud (aka Ford) vehicle?

May want to consider laying off some LL6 supervisors who drive Toyotas instead of being loyal to the company which pays their salary.

Thanks @vwv+1gw3ZrXG.

I got 2 years and 3 months at the company (full-time) and I am really hoping if the worst case scenario happens to me that it will happen when I hit my 3 year mark so I can keep the company 401k contributions (or if it happens before 3 years that the company is willing to allow me to keep their contributions. I am not sure if this is an option though?)

Not done by a long shot. The upcoming year and beyond will be brutal in the automotive business.

The layoffs were announced this Wednesday and occurred throughout the week from Wednesday until Friday. I can confirm several colleagues were let go this week. In addition to the 580 that were laid off last week, more layoffs will occur in the coming months. Therefore I wouldn't be surprised if these kinds of layoffs become a regular occurrence every quarter or every couple of months.
