Thread regarding Ford layoffs

I'm just looking for the right job to come along

It doesn't have to pay as much as Ford and it even doesn't have to have all the same benefits - although benefits here have deteriorated so much over the years that it's not that hard to beat them. I need enough to live on without having to worry about my bills - if I can get that, it'll be worth leaving this place. I don't even remember a time when I didn't hate my job and it's about time that changes.

Too much overtime work is what makes me hate my job. No, i don't like working 10-12 hours every single day.

I know recent college grads that said they had no intentions of applying to automotive because it's too much doom and gloom, not the right work environments, and so on. These are people whose families were in automotive in some form or another and or knew others who were in the auto industry, some even interned at Ford, Chrysler, and GM. The auto industry doesn't seem to attract talent anymore. The people who are in automotive are just burnt out on EVERYTHING. Too much work, too many threats, too many hours, not enough help, and so on.

Some that I have talked to have brought up good points as well. Going Electric will ultimately lead to fewer jobs even in manufacturing. With fewer good-paying jobs, people will look elsewhere for work, which typically means looking out of the "rust belt". So, remove the decent-paying jobs of thousands, paired with Detroit/Dearborn/Michigan areas already really being impacted from the covid lockdowns, with people working more at home, meaning restaurants and local businesses are being deeply impacted, the Michigan economy is on a teetering edge. A recession will deeply impact this area further and this area will be looking a lot different, for the worse, in just a few years. Who wants to be around that? People are looking to get out of the auto field and out of this area.

Corporations are in a serious situation. They don't really hold the power any longer.

Our company, we are losing people because they want to be done with the automotive industry. Too much work. To many processes to follow. The work of two or three dumped on their shoulders.

Another I know, they've lost dozens of people, and new hires/interviews are ghosting left and right. Might have 1 in 15 or 20 work out and stay.

And finally one more, smaller place, but they've gone through a half dozen people in a year alone. The latest employee hired in Friday, walked out the next Monday. The person there a year, is still lowest man on the totem pole.
