Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Moving On

Model E guy here - yup, got the tap on the shoulder today. Guess I was one of those 'supplemental employees' mentioned in the email earlier today. Funny thing is that I reached out to a former L6 in the same area/larger team to let him know (i really liked the guy and respected him, his decision making, and how he tried to always protect the team) via Web ex team, and he asked me to call him on his personal cell - turns out he was let go as well!

Last day is this Friday, the 29th. My current supervisor is being super cool and nice about it; she has already told me I don't need to work the rest of today and the last two days and is even helping me in other ways.

I thought I would be angry or sad, but I would not even describe it as being numb (which I am sure I am and it might hit me later), rather relieved to some extent, as I have game planned how I would leave for the last two to three years (I was actually thinking of applying for retirement earlier this year, but wife talked me out of it because the logic was if I did that and there were layoffs this year - which we all suspected - I'd lose out on the severance pay). The other funny thing in talking with my former L6, he also was thinking about retirement this year, too. The other tidbit he dropped is that they do seem to be going after retirement (i.e. pension eligible people) - he said he had to let go three people last year, all eligible for the pension.

On to plan the next part of my life. For any one else who gets the tap this week, remember when one door shuts, another one opens up somewhere else. Just keep things in perspective no matter how bad it gets, and also remember to help each other out.

Looks like 15 Ford Board members, 13 GM, 11 Stellantis. Our board is 30% bigger than Stellantis, but no board members were harmed in this reduction. Funny how much we live in an oligarchy.

I was like that when I was in GM as a resident engineer from supplier side.

After staying at Ford, they are just as bad. But Ford managed to run backwards quicker

Will you contact me via cell or text or email so that I may put this on the record? It's an important letter.

You know.... I'd say I'm sorry for your loss, but it sounds like you gamed planned this to the "T." Good on you and all the best in your future endeavors.

The other puzzling piece is that I haven't heard a thing on any LL5+ losing their jobs. I thought we are all One Ford?? No? Is it just LL6-? I guess it truly is all our faults.

I am sorry to hear what happened to you and the LL 6 today but want to applaud you on having a great attitude and response regarding the situation. I have no doubt you will be very successful wherever you end up.
If you look for me I will be busy arranging the deck chairs. ;-)
