Thread regarding AIG (American Intl Group Inc.) layoffs

Slow motion erosion of skills

I am happy for others, but at the same time I am depressed because people are leaving while I'm still failing to get a new offer. It’s my fault that I allowed myself to stay here so long and didn’t keep my skills updated, so I’m not marketable now. On the other hand, I haven’t even had many opportunities here to upgrade my skills. How much do you think your skills have eroded while working here?

I used to feel exactly the same way few months back as you are feeling now. My advice is just keep hustling. You are very close to getting a better opportunity.

Learn new skills in your personal time and exaggerate on your resume. You will make it soon.

I left AIG few months back and I have never been so happy. You will be amazed what other companies offer in terms of both total comp and learning opportunities.
