Thread regarding Ford layoffs

I'm in no rush to leave

I've been sending out some feelers recently but I have no intention to devote more of my time to it right now. I'll be honest, I'm paid well for a job that takes very little effort from me to do. It has its downsides, of course, but nothing that's a dealbreaker for me just yet. But this is the part that confuses me. I read about so many people here who are miserable at work and they're still here. Why? Why wouldn't you be out of here already if that's how you feel?

Absolutely could not have summed it up better myself and this I will add. Alas, the OP will probably be left standing even after the next, upcoming SRD. Meanwhile, I'm absolutely swamped and my management team knows no bounds in the amount of work I'm assigned, unending meetings, you name it- more than half+ of our department is as you describe.

Ford's ROI on its workforce is actually negative and the most puzzling thing on the face of the planet. We have and always will the most man hours per vehicle and are at the same time reminded how things are all our fault- GSR and LL6. To further segment, you have the over 40 group of those in 1 of 3 positions- 1. country club/out to pasture will retire soon. 2. useless and in a position he/she can't do damage. 3. job nobody wants but that is critical ("A" players). The company would save a fortune getting rid of the "2" category, while helping transition the "3's" into desirable positions. But it's still about if it doesn't come from a 20 or 30 something, it can't be any good. I've watched young bucks pick up the phone and bo-m get a job with one call. This would save Ford so much money and improve Pulse overnight, thus they'll never do it.

@OP seems like you are a match for Ford. You don’t mind just coasting at work, you don’t mind not improving your skills and job proficiency. You are content with being paid to do little work. That’s ok Ford excels at and rewards mediocrity.

But consider other personalities that actually want to continually improve and to actually make meaningful contributions. If your goal is to actually accomplish something in a timely manner the Ford mediocrity and bureaucracy would drive you nuts. The driven people tend to initially believe the management propaganda about wanting to improve the Ford culture and processes, then when the reality that Ford management likes things exactly the way they are they become disillusioned and start to voice their discontent.
If Ford would just be honest and say how things really are, the high performers and innovators would self-select out of Ford, and in fact never even apply to Ford.
Go Blue!

Anyhow that is the pattern I see. The motivated talented people can’t tolerate Ford for long. The mediocre coasters settle in for a lifetime employment.
