Thread regarding Anthem Inc. layoffs

Money

Does anyone else find it ironic that anthem made billions last year and this quarter, but the average employee (regardless of how well they did on their performance review) received a merit increase of less than 2%?

Its nice that anthem was able to help the new mother get an apartment, but what about employees who can't afford their rent? Or groceries? Or gas?

With record high inflation, will we get a cost of living increase? I won't hold my breath.

I can't imagine how anthem made it on the great place to work list. Once upon a time it really was a great place to work. Not anymore.

The lower merit raises benefit Anthem in part because the 401K company match and AIP are percentages based on salaries. A double win for the company.

First, what on earth was Gail wearing ? I stopped going to those ' townhalls' because I couldn't stand the BS anymore , but someone took a screenshot shot of her and sent it to me. So I don't know about a new mom getting getting an apartment but hot diggity!! I'm not sure if we get such a low merit because of the AIP/QIPs? Before we became Anthem and we're s non profit we got higher merits and smaller, but more frequent ' bonuses/ incentives. Cheers

Signs of Late Stage Capitalism. It’s not just Anthem. Tech oligarchs are sitting on Trillions of dollars (larger than most countries), while policing speech and weaving a web through every aspect of our lives. Until the middle class decides to stop thanking the top 2% for their scrapes, not much will change.

“Late stage capitalism describes the unrealistic perspectives of the wealthiest 1%. In the same vein, it highlights how the middle class is largely oblivious to the struggles of the poor.

It's the sense that monopolies, and the oligarchs that run them, have rigged the system in their favor. They hired well-paid lobbyists to influence politicians. They won Supreme Court cases, such as Citizens United v. FEC (2010), that give corporations the same rights as people.3 This allows them to spend untold millions on political ads that benefit them.

Many feel that capitalism's winners may even favor inequality. With it, they have fewer competitive threats. They "rig the system" by creating barriers to entry. They send their children to private schools while cutting funds for public schools.

There is a sense that the U.S. income inequality created by capitalism is unsustainable. It's a prelude to a more equitable way of life. That includes animals, plants, and the natural world as well.”

So true! I have heard fellow associates label us as cows, slaves, donkeys, cogs & gears. You have to think twice about wanting to work here. You have to know you are nothing and they really don't care about how much work we do. Do less as possible, get your measley pay check, don't make waves.

This company and all public companies are owned by shareholders...the rich. They want their return on their investment. The board and senior management do what they are told. The employees are seen as nothing more than cattle. They do not care if you can pay your rent, buy gas or anything else.
