Achieve more with a mentor

I would love to be promoted. My question is how to find a mentor who can give me helpful advice to finally get to promotion here?

Contact a manager ask them if they could be your mentor. Ideally its a manager you actually know.

I feel i am stating the obvious but i guess its not obvious if your asking. Dont be afraid of being turned down at the opportunity to be ypur mentor either.

Mentors that can orchestrate promotions find you, not the other way around. This assumes you are one of the anointed ones. There are algorithms and special programs which make sure the 'right' people get selected. Lets say statistically 55% of employees are white males, they should expect to be at the back of the line.

Locate the highest ranking person in the meeting you are attending. Mirror everything about that person. Give that person compliments as often as possible. Example: "I agree with you 100% that we need to do xyz to have a successful launch. "

Speaking of mentors - did you know that there is a special program in place where BIPOC get assigned mentors? Yes, this is a Ford program they implemented due to “systemic racism.” But people who are not of color are not assigned mentors. So who’s the racist?

If you don’t have a mentor now, you will never have one. If you are to be on a track for promotions, you would have been given a mentor. So, you may want to consider leaving the company.

Suggest you get yourself in the " good ole diversity club" and your mentor will be able to pass on to you the promotional opportunities reserved for you.

Just make sure your NOT too good at your job. If you are too good you'll never get past a grade 8. He who cannot do the work gets promoted to management.

Find a manager that you like first. Pay special attention to their style of managing not only work but people's career.
Stay away from the political animals. they tend for one do not know what they are doing and will throw you (or anyone) under the bus to get what they want. This can happen at any large corporation.

My advice: look for a higher level job elsewhere as a manager or chief, then come back to Ford as a director or a VP. Most likely they are not going to promote you to a higher level role beyond an LL6 internally.

I’ll give you all the advice you need. In grain yourself into the “good ole boys club”, and be a kiss a$$. That’s all you need to know to be successful at F. If the thought of that makes you sick, then you’re better off finding a new job
