Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

The Reason I Jumped Ship

I left Allstate after 5 years and went to a competitor. Why? We in claims were treated not just poorly but abominably! First, we had to take a personality test! Then layoffs during the pandemic, just to increase profits! Then those of us who survived saw our workloads become unmanageable. 3% raise and told how lucky I was. And surely I don’t need to discuss the higher healthcare deductibles and lower matched 401k contributions. I went to a company that didn’t lay anyone off and gives bonuses. And my workload is no longer giving me nightmares. If you stayed, I ask you, why?

I have spoken to coworkers who feel trapped. Been at Allstate 25 years. One in particular has no degree, started as a processor, now handling BI claims, and worked her way up to the low end of salary for that band. Now is miserable and drowning but feels she can’t afford to jump ship and put her entire family in a position with no health care for a month. And would lose lots of PTO. It’s a win-lose situation, not in her favor.

Progressive is way better. I get an end of the year bonus called gainshare, 3-5% raises annually , manageable auto claims workload and work life balance. Glad I left.

MRR did it for me. So there’s a pay band…but I am not allowed to get anywhere near the top of that pay band….?? And there’s no explanation for it? They’re starting to deal with their employees like they deal with their claimants. Deny. Delay, make excuses. All a game meant to pad the pockets of the big wigs.

Just hit 28 years and still got the heck out. This cr-p isn’t worth it. Senior leadership is an absolute joke! Got more money, more PTO, better workload, and I feel better mentally. This company is abominable.

Some people have too many years and tenure to jump ship. When I hit 25 years I knew I wasn’t going anywhere under my own choosing.
