Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Chi Ching! Right vs Wrong at ExxonMobil?

Wondering if there is anyone left within ExxonMobil who is capable of separating right from wrong when it comes to well being of the society, coworkers and even the corporation?

It feels like everyone is working to Chi-Ching their pockets, playing tricks to get greasier assignments, and yes nodding to bosses for a better performance assessment all the time.
Is it just me or do you also find yourself surrounded by human zombies?

Yes, OP. You are right. I see two types of people at XOM. The very young ones who came to do good work and found a dead company where nothing gets done. These people are already gone or they are seriously looking for another job. Those of us who are too old, have been with the company for too long and are waiting for retirement anxiously. The ones that stick around are doing what you said. We are filling our pockets with as much money as possible because there are no serious projects at XOM. We are also too old to be hired by the Amazons, Googles, etc. Remember age discrimination. And DW has made it perfectly clear that he does not value R&D so why work? He is milking the company until it runs dry. For now crazy Vladimir is giving XOM a big hand and the price of oil has gone through the roof. But we all know that things will go back to normal eventually and the price of oil will back down to 40 or 50 bucks. In the meantime we are just trying to chi-ching as much money as we can.

Human zombie here
Do minimal work, keep my very good assessment, almost always nod to my boss, make sure my wife’s career can fly (not with XOM) and take care of my kids. What’s wrong with that? I don’t even mind even if they pip me but how come it’s not my turn yet?

What is hard for me to see is seeing so many good people forced to do things (back stabbing, lying etc.) they would otherwise never do. Doing things that you find morally wrong takes a huge toll on you even when you do these things for “good” reasons (like having any chance of staying safe in ranking and keeping your job).

I’ve known people who have left the company because they either refused to “play the game” or they couldn’t watch the negative effect “playing the game” had on themselves, their family & their fellow co-workers. No one is left unchanged.

Nope. The people I work with aren't at all like what you describe.

#weareexxonmobil

But seriously you’re mostly correct. There are some good ones out there but even that has limits. They have to toe the line and protect their careers. Sad to see that when the newest generation of engineers just want to be recognized for being great at their jobs. Exxonmobil is setup to build managers, not leaders, that do exactly as they are told. So much for entrepreneurial spirit.
