Return to the office

How is your department "returning to the office"? Mine is keeping WFH policy but you can come into the building as needed. We have a few back in the office full time because they couldn't stand remote work. Most are still completely WFH.

WFHs appear to be a good thing for the staff for now. But I wonder if mgmt will twist it for their advantage....? Cost reductions drive everything at this company. So I wouldn't be surprised if the WFH option will eventually be the tool used to reduce heads when a dept is tasked with head count reductions.
A quick phone call to the WFH employee to say those fateful words: "your last day with the company will be..." is all that's needed. (they've done it before with contract heads). Then simply turn off the badge and access thru the firewall All that would be left is transferring that job out of state. The laptop becomes the terminated employees - as a consolation prize. No muss - no fuss. Reduced costs achieved! Gone are the days of the shocked numb employee, wandering the halls with their cardboard box, and final walk of shame to their car. As for those newly renovated bldgs -- with no staff to fill them - sell them.

I refuse to check out a test car unless it’s full electric. I have my scruples and want to leave the planet in better shape than when I found it.

I find it hard to believe that with WFH, management would allow such blatant mis-use of company property. Every day including weekends for months and months would raise flags, since the corporate rule is no more than 4 days in a row. Maybe they are acquiring data to sell to customers, or testing out the blinker fluid module. .

While you are there doing your number 2 personal business, why don't you sign out a company m-plate test car, fill up the gas tank at the fuel depot, and have a free new-ish vehicle to use for all your other personal needs? Free gas, free insurance. It's a great perk to working at Ford. And with zero repercussions, since vehicle control doesn't care nor does HR or management. Heck, they will even cover for you!

We have people in our activity who enjoy this all the time. Unfortunately for me, I have a conscience and don't want to steal from the company so I do not get to enjoy the benefit, but if you don't give a care....then go for it!

Was reading the book, The 7 Bathroom Habits of Highly Effective People, by Stephen Covey. He says to have a working area near a bathroom to maximize productivity. Remote work from home would be perfect for that situation.

I am considering applying for 100% remote work. I live 15 minutes from the office so I would still like to come in to take a odiferous dump onsite, since my wife doesn't approve of me doing this at home after a weekend of drinking low-budget refreshments and partying with my buddies.

Yup, same in my area - except we have be explicitly told we can not come into the office unless we have a good reason. This is likely because the hoteling solution is not available at the moment for many of us plus you have to reserve a meeting room ahead of time ( no one that I know of wants to show up on their own, just to get together as a team).

By the time the new building is done they will have already leased a lot of it out. But we will still have all those cool little boutiques the public can wander in and out of.

Might as well just use it for Village / Museum traffic and visitor lodging.

So why is Ford still spending hundreds of millions of dollars for a campus renovation that very few will be coming back to?

Our group can't afford to demand anything at all, even with all the new business.

We brought in 30% new talent with low to no skill, and lost 50% of our experienced talent right after. Some are even leaving the automotive field completely. It essentially comes down to the highest bidder and/or the best and happiest lifestyle compatibility.

With lack of available "bodies" to hire, corporations are in no position to make demands.

Still WFH. Nobody has any interest in going into an office unless you have something specific. Commute alone makes it not worth it.

1saa,

There are plans to send jobs, out of Michigan, anyways, all the way to Mexico.
That is why they don't care about bringing people back to Dearborn.

Still WFH, over half of our team is no longer in MI, and plan to resign if recalled to the office.
