Thread regarding MetLife Inc. layoffs

Quiet Plinking

You know, I read these posts about Work From Home and Return to Office and COVID and the toxic work environment and posts from people who found better jobs.

But, I just wanted to point out, that MetLife is quietly terminating people 1 and 2 at a time. Plink. Plink.

You might not even know they are gone. If you send and email, you don't get an automatic response. You'd think they'd set it up to say, "Sorry, Jane Doe is no longer with the company". But they don't.

By doing this way, MetLife avoids media attention.

That is all.

I think people are just moving on to greener pastures. The amount of bounce backs I've gotten in recent weeks has been stark.

Hand raising is hush hush and would not even be recognized as ever occurring. You have to know “friends” in the right places - like with anything else…

@2ydi+1gaXenEw - Would you please give some details on how this hand raising thing works?

Who can raise their hand?
Who will they accept?
Do they get severance?
Is there an age range for it?
How much of this is going on?

"Unfortunately, Plinking is widely due to voluntary terminations and trust me when I tell you that the few pockets of recent work force reductions consisted of people raising their hands."

Thanks for the info. I believe you.

And how is this different from any recent thread? There is not enough plinking occurring IMO. And it certainly is not being done under any strategy to avoid media right now. Attrition is a current problem that is not working in the favor of the corporation. If it is happening, and is performance based, it is extremely rare…5 times across the entire company in one year it is a lot. Again talking involuntary and performance based terminations. Unfortunately, Plinking is widely due to voluntary terminations and trust me when I tell you that the few pockets of recent work force reductions consisted of people raising their hands.

Interesting point about terrible to work with. In some cases, that is true.

In others, they are people who have been with the company for a while and their value fell off. That is in part a management issue. If they were good when you hired them, and good for a while, what went wrong?

On the other hand, there are many that are of little value. That is, if the person disappeared, the share holders wouldn't suffer and would probably benefit. There others that won't be fired no matter what they do.

Seen a lot of people leaving on their own too now that bonuses were paid out.

Yep, I noticed 2 sudden departures from different cities/LOB. Both were terrible to work with; so hopefully those being terminated are strategic. While there is plenty to complain about this place, keeping terrible employees is not the right thing to do.
