Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

PIP - corporate practice for layoffs

I'm thinking about whether there could be cuts after the financial report.
Someone here on the forum made a good point - why would Dell lay off employees and pay them to leave, when they have the option to PIP employees instead, most of whom will immediately seek a way out. It wouldn’t surprise me that more and more employees will be PIPed soon.
Would love to hear your thoughts?

I got PIP'ed for no reason in 2019!. First time in my 35 year career history. I was 54 and found that PIP insulting. Obviously an age and salary selected target. So I got out of PIP and left right after I got my annual bonus as I was planning on retiring at 55. However I did think about staying longer but the PIP changed my mind. I am now FREE. Dell deserves a class action suit for targeting older employees. I'm pretty sure there would be a good case for that.

PIP wouldn't have worked for me as I hit all the KPI's, I was also one of the few AE's to actually hit quota. My manager didn't like me, so they paid me a years salary to disappear. I made sure the 'Team' knew, the manager had the worst tell Dell in history. He was demoted.

If there was a union (like what's going down at Amazon, Apple etc), PIPs could not be used to push staff to leave of their own accord. Greedy management have ensured that no workers benefit anymore from redundancy for all their years of service.

For example, it costs the company less to give an incompetent 'yes-man' manager, fresh off the bus, a 5% rise for handing out PIPs than to alleviate some of the financial stress a worker goes through to find another job, even if the worker has given their best years to the company.

that's how it was on the ViPR project not too long ago.

I’ve seen managers pull strings behind the scenes to have other employees harass someone until they are forced to leave from the stress. HR doesn’t care either. They encourage management to do this.

PIP...just like the good old days. Somebody's always watching to catch dirt on the selected employee.

good old PIP a meaningless threat even your manager wants to lay low and not bring attention.

Pipping takes alot of demographic and related research to avoid litigation.
Age-based for example.
Layoffs are better - and legal.
