Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

It's like working in a completely different company

Now that I look back on how it was when I first got a job here, this seems like a completely different company to me. In a negative sense, unfortunately. It worries me what all this will look like in a few years

here is what web admins here usually nuke:

  • names or anything personal and identifiable (ok to name c-suits, not ok to name your direct manager or coworker)
  • f-words and personal insults, racism, derogatory speech
  • politics and religion talk
  • advertising posts (meaning: careful with links)
  • -off-topics (meaning: if it’s not related to the company and it’s employees, it may be nuked).

I responded back to the previous posters message and my message didn't make it on. Maybe they moderate by key words? either way, just another example of belligerent 'moderation'. . . . join the ranks of TWTR and youtube and FB

We make money despite ourselves, not because of ourselves. One of the small reason I am in O&G is bcz I viewed the industry as conservative, with conservative values. Appears that is not the case any longer. Maybe squeezed out to a smaller, private company in the future.

How distracting is it for the company to spend an entire month trumpeting radical, woke gender ideology instead of focusing on its core mission to find and produce oil and gas? They must know 95% of their people don't want to participate in the politics and are just staying quiet out of fear of reprisal?

I have two different comments on the previous post depending on whether it's sarcasm or not...

If it's sarcasm: Well done.
If it's not sarcasm: The CCP is smiling.

Not sure how you reach that conclusion. If you are refering to upper mgmt, then I can potentially see a correlation. But I would say that is a common thread among executives in most large corporations. The only way to rise to the top is to believe in yourself so much as to be narcissistic. I see many director level people who are over confident, even when they are saying things that are not true.

This company and industry attracts those with borderline personality disorder and covert narcissism. It will implode within 5 years.

Just wait until each bu and function is mandated to have a token trans employee or two. If you’re good at your job, but don’t help fill the quota, you’re on the street. It’ll happen.

Cool story. Sounds like you’re an ideal “company man” slaving away to enrich the head honchos at the expense of your own compensation and dignity. As for me and others, we’re capitalists and want fair company for our work. Not just pats on the back from ever-richer bosses who take advantage of our blood, sweat, and tears. And THAT’s why so many are jumping ship to better companies and industries. Glad you’re so pleased with yourself though.

35+ years with Phillips/ConocoPhillips. I started out with Phillips in the early 80's as an engineering tech with a general BS degree and started in the drilling division "typing" [imagine no computers or cell phones] information into drilling permits. I retired as a drilling Superintendent. I worked HOURS beyond my pay and asked for more, only complaining to myself about the hours I worked extra and how others aren't carring their load.. If you think you're a prodigy and you're boss doesn't give you a gold star eveyday, you're in the wrong business. I was taught to give more than I received to achieve my goals. You will ALWAYS have
setbacks and you have to adapt

What you are experiencing is the outcome of the progressive way of thinking. You must destroy all history, culture, stability, loyalty, pride, optimism and sense of enjoyment. Everything from the past is bad. Past success was rooted in inequity, racism and privilege. Let’s all be miserable. Are we done yet?

Much more corporate, much less technical ability and aspiration. Feels like Severance set most days. Stock price highs and pseudo religious DEI manuals don’t feed the soul. Stepford people with vacant stares.
