Thread regarding Xerox Corp. layoffs

People here are exaggerating a bit

It’s true that Xerox is far from a good company, but it’s also not a bad place to start a career. I know a few young people who have made good use of their time here and to whom Xerox has served as an excellent stepping stone. Why exaggerate all the negative things?

7 years ago, depending on their education, ability, one might be excused for picking xerox over Walmart or Subway. After March 2020 either of these companies offers a more sustainable future and less toxicity.

Despite all the hate this post has generated, I am one of those young people who are using Xerox as a foot in the door for the industry. I got an R&D tech position at the age of 23 with minimal prior experience. I was bottom of the totem pole. Over the last 7 years, I've worked my way from the bottom to being a level 3 technician (also referred to senior tech) with a light supervisory role with the lower end techs I've trained in my area. In that time, my pay has increased over 50% and my benefits have slightly gotten better (more vacation time). I know that I'm officially capped though and that raises moving forward likely wont even match inflation, so I have been casually looking for opportunities elsewhere. I've had multiple interviews and turned down job offers that were similar in pay and benefits while I wait for that perfect position to present itself. So, having Xerox on my resume definitely ensures that I can get another job in this field, as there is no way I'd have gotten those job offers with all my prior retail and warehouse experience.

So, while Xerox is a bad long-term career move, it looks a LOT better on the resume than "Retail Specialist at Walmart" and "Sandwich Artist at Subway". Just don't expect to hold the job for 30 years and retire. Those days are behind us with this company.

I can’t think of a much worse company to start your career at, who wants a defunct company on their resume 5 years from now?

Hired on with false expectations only to end up doing the job of 3 people and not being compensated for it. Then having support outsourced, logistics nightmare, and mandatory overtime.

Yea, sure... Great place to have a career.

No it's 80% bad, 20% worse

The good old 80 / 20 rule. Xerox is 80% bad …20% good .

Worked for xerox for 5 years and it served me as a great stepping stone at the beginning of my career. Definitely not a place to stick around for young people just getting started, though.

An excellent example of vague formulaic too clever by half xeroid bs word concoction.
Any “few” young people who started here regretted the decision almost immediately. Unfortunately they made the decision and if they quit in a week it might be hard to explain in the interview at the next job they really want. So they slug it out for a year and move on.
The negative necessary? The future implications of young people who potentially absorb and carry forward toxic ideologies and “best practices” from xerox experience to other companies cannot be exaggerated.
