Thread regarding Ford layoffs

EV sales

“Tesla vehicles had the most new EV registrations with 113,882, representing 59% of electric cars registered during that period.

Kia came in second with 8,450 based on strong sales of its Niro subcompact. Ford was third with 7,407 registrations for its Mustang Mach-E, the electric version of its commercial Transit van and the newly released F150 Lightning pickup. Hyundai wasn't far behind, posting 6,964 registrations for its Ionic 5 and Kona compact crossovers, along with the hatchback version of the Ionic 5.

Because Tesla remains upmarket with starting prices over $40,000, the two Korean brands are quickly laying claim to the budget EV market. Kia's Niro sells for half that, and the Kona Electric starts at $34,000.”

We used to cancel vehicles that sold only 7,407 in a quarter. EVs are not profitable for Ford, and Tesla is so far ahead of us and Hyundai is right behind. It will be very interesting to see the revenue numbers broken out next year.

Now we know what the frunk on the Lightning is for! To hold your portable generator to charge your truck during a rolling black out!

I should patent that.

I laughed whole heartily when I read this three years ago about rolling blackouts in Cal:

"Chad Dunbar, a resident of Petaluma, Calif., said he bought gasoline-powered generators as a backup to charge his Tesla Model 3, “if it’s an emergency,” as well as his home."

I guess this will all be part of the new norm!

This mornings news is that most of America should expect rolling electricity blackouts this summer. Good luck charging your EV anywhere in America.

@dgh
I'll ask the same question I've been asking for years and which not a single person has ever been able to answer: What data is being sold and who is buying it?

Fords data and software strategy will be just fine thanks. Once up and running, it will be profitable. Pay attention to when leadership like Doug Field and others from model E speak about the plan, rather than yourself just getting mad and ranting here.

Impressive, very nice. Now let's see Ford Motor's revenue from selling data.

@erp+1gNN9rcd Ford is already out of business, even if the Ford family doesn't realize it. Slowly, but surely, Bill Ford has been reducing the company's footprint in the market. His lack of capacity to accomplish anything, together with his desire of recognition, has allowed the brownnoses to take control and corrupt the entire company. His ambition of being a "visionary" is making the company to spend money and resources, so much needed to keep the company afloat, in projects with no return value.

Yes, a huge company like FMC will have an slow death, but the writing is on the wall. The company has been firing the best employees, making the ones not in the "family and friends plan" to look for jobs outside Ford. The morale is so low, that most of the employees are just delivering barely good enough results, in fear of becoming a target of the next wave of layoffs.

We can see the cost of those SRD "savings" in the awful quality of our products, on our failed launches, on the lack of innovation and enthusiasm of the work force. The F-150 series has been dethroned; the SUVs are marked as "Do not buy" in the experts' reviews; there is little interest from the buyers on our "luxury" brand.

With so much competition now, and even more in the future when Chinese companies will try to enter the worldwide markets, there is not much room for error, and even less for recovery, all while FoMoCo keeps fumbling the ball.

Ford Blue is being bleed dry by Model e.

Model e's future hinges on being able to sell services to EV buyers.

That will not happen for years. Can Ford Blue sustain it that long? No it cannot.

Let's say the EVs achieve an average of 10k per month for the next two years. That less than 300K vehicles on the road in 2024. Lets be generous and assume a 25% take rate at an average of $10 a month. 75K @ 10. $750k/month. $9 millon/year

ROFL. Yeah services are the future.........

I hope and pray for the sake of those left at Ford those people at the top know what they are doing? Because I read the Wells Fargo 71-page downgrade of GM & Ford and it does not look like Ford pull through.
One ford exec was quoted last winter that it may take 2-3 generations of EVs before Ford makes a profit. At that rate Ford will be out of business.

The 7,407 number includes Mustang Mach-E, the electric version of commercial Transit van and the newly released F150 Lightning pickup. This means each of these vehicles sold maybe an average of 2,500 in the entire quarter, or less than 1,000 part month.

Not profitable, and unsustainable.
