Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Every Ford employee should have an exit strategy

Employees are being fired, laid off, and pushed to quit left and right. If you don't have an exit strategy, you're leaving yourself vulnerable for no good reason. I'm not saying you have to utilize it, but you need to have that option. I've seen too many good people put up with horrific treatment and do several jobs at once just to avoid being let go. Don't do that to yourself.

"Any" employee who works for "any" company should have an exit strategy. The best offense is a good defense.

If you are salaried at Ford, I don't care what department, and are an LL5 or lower, you better have your resume updated and be ready to go. The GSRs (rats according to upper-management) are jumping ship. Many LL6s (women and children according to upper management) are loading the life boats. The LL4s+ will not take the fall when things do not get done, so the LL5s will start getting thrown overboard.

The Titanic has hit the iceberg. The ship is sinking. Don't go down with the ship.

Just be careful. Don't jump out of the frying pan and into the fire.

If I am being honest, this applies for all the jobs, not just Ford. I was at FoMoCo for about 4 years and change. It was a decent experience for me. The whole gig went well for 3 odd years, however, I could sense an unease after Hackett arrived (Since 2017). Our group was largely untouched in the great SRD of 2019, however I started prepping for my exit strategy. I didn't go crazy, but slowly and steadily I started looking for other avenues. In the Dec 2020 a bunch of good, talented folks were let go from my group, and it happened overnight. Y'know how Ford does it, let people go on the down low so that it doesn't makes the headline. That was it for me, that was the watershed moment, I significantly upped my efforts to find job, and I left in Feb 2021. I am still in contact with a bunch people from back in day at Ford, and recently a few more have been let go. They came after that steady group and cannibalized it. They moved the LL5 (who was a great guy btw) to some other group, moved a bunch decent LL6s as well. It was a lesson learned, always have an exit strategy. We are no longer in the era of getting pension post retirement, and the trend of working all your life at a company is gone. They don't care, and you shouldn't either, give a good 3-4 years at a company and move. Make money.

Anyone with real skills should exit while they can. Doing great work at Ford just puts a target on your back as the Ford Lifers don’t like anyone who excels at their job, and will collude to oust you.

If your only skills are playing Ford politics then you better acquire some real skills post haste, or settle in to sink with the ship.
