Great place to start a career

This is in my opinion a good place to start a career. However, it seems that this is not the place for those who expect that they will be able to significantly grow their career here. Quick poll for everyone: How has your career progressed here?

I've gotten 7 promotions, starting from Tech through engineering and into management. I'm really really rich & I have Intel to thank for it 🙏

Opportunities for growth were prominent in the mid-90s to 2000 when the company was making money. Then the tech bubble burst and growth has never been the same. Alternative revenue sources were either limited opportunities (drones) or blown ones (phones). And now AMD has re-emerged and the new tech leadership (Apple, etc.) has either developed custom processors or is poised to do so. In the end, limited company growth limits the growth of its employees. What’s left is hoping to find one of the few good opportunities internally or doing your own job really well and hoping that matters. Or you can be one of those annoying employees that hangs on for $$$ via employee/boss symbiosis — employee kisses bu-t and their boss then protects them by never soliciting focal input from anyone critical of that employee.

I had a great career at Intel. Advanced from Gr.5 to Gr.9 in less than 9 years. But the next promo (Gr. 10) was a long haul. It took about 9 more years. So, it took 18 years to get 5 promotions. Not a bad deal. Intel is a GREAT place to work. Also I had the opportunity to be awarded with several patents many of whom were implemented on Intel CPUs. That is a very fulfilling experience.

With zero growth, there is little opportunity for advancement.

You’re better off starting a career at a smaller high growth company where you will take on more and learn more at a faster pace.

You’ll learn to be slow and inefficient at Intel while picking up bad management practices.

Once again HR is working hard here.

Working at Intel has been great for me and has benefited my family as a result. I’m really grateful for the pay and benefits of course, but I’ve also benefited from the tuition program and multiple promos. As I’m nearing the end of my career, I’d say that Intel has been a really great place to work.
