Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Data Play

You all keep saying 'winning the EV race'.

You must realize it is not the EV race per se that we Ford are trying to win.

It is more of a race to gather, administer, use, and sell the data and connected data. Thats where the money and business growth is.

Not in selling the EV vehicles or selling more EV vehicles than any other OEM.

We can still get more than the needed revenue to be profitable with data even while not having the most vehicle sales.

The government wants to force us into EVs. I may have to carry a gas powered generator in the back of my pickup.

I don't think everyone wants EVs. <==

As it is, owners of BEV are chained to a place called "home", where there is an equipment called L2 charger. They allow themselves to travel to a max distance from home corresponding to half of 80% of the battery capacity. In a Michigan cold winter day, 80% could become 60-40%. An EPA 300 miles could easily translate to a 60 miles one-way. And you might have to WFH the next day just to charge the battery. For some, it is OK and, for some, it is unpractical. Probably it is more correct to say:

I don't think everyone can have EVs.

The end goal is to get everyone into a constantly-on connected EV monitored by big tech (dictatorship govt.) to enable better control of the masses. If you disagree with 'dear leader' then your EV gets bricked or better yet, the doors will lock and your EV will take you directly to re-education camp . . . Govt. and Industry want EVs for everyone - I don't think everyone wants EVs.

Ok genius...who is going to buy this data? What data are we going to collect if we don't sell vehicles? This is all a bunch of B.S.

@1btg+1g677iF0 I work in the area you are talking about. The idea that Ford is going to make a bunch of money by selling data and services is a bunch of malarkey. But you keep drinking the blue koolaid!

Have any of you listened to the multiple chances Ford leadership has provided on connected data and how it will benefit and steer Ford of the future? It really seems like no one is paying attention, nor taking advantage of the training and presentations that have been offered the past couple years.

We will make a fortune selling data to Burger King revealing how many times you go to McDonalds

Ford is making the mistake lots of companies make with big data. They expect that they will collect lots and lots of data and then somehow analytical processing and pondering of that data will lead to the discovery of profitable insights. This view is so commonly held that any man who questions it will be regarded as insensible, but the view is 100% wrong. What are the fruits of Ford's big data strategy? What data is being sold and who is buying it?

Totally agree with OP. The money is in services, which is run by data.

I agree with other posts that I don't like seeing fellow employees lose their job. But you've heard time after time our leadership say the automotive landscape is changing. Ford blue definitely has a couple years left as a revenue stream. But it will have a sudden end, concurrently when data/analytics take our customers by storm. You will want to be prepared and work in data/ software areas. That is the Ford future.

Let’s deal with facts. 2021 revenue:
Automotive (Blue) $126,150,000,000
Credit (Blue) $10,073,000,000
Mobility (E) $18,000,000
So, at the rate Billy going. The oval be lucky to have a single dealership selling Ford product.
This data thing reminds me of how we went into China. After everybody else. So, we were forced to partner with the #7 auto company. In other words, a Loser. We should just partner with google. I left around a month ago. Sad but it was time. The future is not bright at Ford. Look at the sales numbers. You can see a "BOLD MOVE" is coming in the form of cuts. Make no mistake or think you are too important. they are coming.
I hate to see anyone lose their job. Agency purchased services or full time. Watch and listen to the Legend in His Own Mind (JF) speak.
Don't believe the garbage about Family. You saw that with the initial bonus offering. The only reason was because of the Free Press publishing what was said. Then you look at the Puppets try you explain it. All you had to do was read the CHAT. The GSRs and LL6s know what that so called management team are. Sorry but your body language Jim is not believable. You do not have KARMA. In fact, I have to drink a double shot of expresso to listen to you. You might as well take attendance in Ferris Bueller Day Off.

Nobody is buying any data from Ford.
Let’s see that revenue line item broken out in the financial statements next year.
We won’t, you can bet on that.

The only one that wants data from Ford, is Ford! Google and Apple already have this data.

The people that keep bringing this up on this forum are the problem.

Data is dead. No one is asking Ford for data.
