Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Sell CVX at $162/share ?

Some of us former employees are holding company shares or options with a nice built-in gain.

Thoughts on whether this $162/share price is sustainable or do me sell while share price is inflated due to Ukraine/Russia conflict ?

If you're still holding, you're pretty oblivious to the changes going on in the oil industry. Just like the 2020 EOI was a 'gift' to the retiring Boomers, this price spike is very temporary and is your opportunity to make a profit on Chevron and re-invest in many, many available blue chips with stable futures. Chevron's future is anything but stable. Like others here have (unwittingly) told you, Chevron itself depends on a robust oil market, not on the quality of Chevron the company.

Supply will continue to tighten. Governments will continue to push low carbon future and deny exploration permits. Large producers will ensure supply stays tight by low exploration budgets, ever smaller employee base, stock buy backs and dividends. Mergers, acquisitions and a tight money supply from Wall St. will limit independents from moving the production needle. Remember who runs the oil industry; who profits and who pulls the strings. Pick a few of the top companies in the petroleum heap and hold their stock. Much more money to be made. High oil and fuel prices is nearly guaranteed. For those who think electric will take over near term, my advice is to not underestimate the greed of those currently in power nor their ability to devise mechanisms to continue to profit handsomely.

I will believe the days of oil are over when streets are full of electric cars and most homes have electric heat. Today? No, roads in my town are still full of huge gas guzzlers, each with a single passenger. When the demand drops, we will let up on supply, but at $100 / barrel we will continue to party on thank you very much!

When the war is over the price is over. When is the next war with an oil and gas producer?

You’re almost late to the party. Sell it all. Dollar cost average OUT. This is the last oil peak. We probably have another 6-9 months until the markets balance. Please enjoy and profit from it. After this we go the way of tobacco and coal.
