Latest Ford Recall: 737,000 Vehicles over software and fire-risk issues

WASHINGTON, April 1 (Reuters) - Ford Motor Co (F.N) is recalling 737,000 vehicles in the United States over a part that could develop an oil leak and a software error that could hinder braking, it said on Friday.

The automaker is recalling 345,451 of its 2020-2022 Ford Escape and 2021-2022 Ford Bronco Sport vehicles with 1.5L engines because the engine oil separator housing could crack and develop an oil leak that might cause an engine fire.

Ford said it had reports of at least eight fires that may be related to the issue but no related injuries or crashes. Dealers will inspect the oil separator for damage or oil leaks, and replace the oil separator and seals, as necessary.

Ford is also recalling 391,836 2021-2022 F-150, 2022 Ford Maverick, Expedition, Lincoln Aviaator, F-250, F-350, F-450 and F-550 vehicles because a towed trailer equipped with an electric or electric-over hydraulic brake system might not brake.

Dealers will update the integrated trailer brake control module software. Ford has 67 reports of improper function potentially related to the issue but no reports of crashes or injuries related to the recall.

They are doing the same thing with cloud technology. "Microsoft sucks, move everything to Google!"

When there are inevitably outages with Google they will scramble to Amazon or back to in-house data centers. It is a clown show. Always looking for Eutopia. And spending gobs and gobs of money doing it.

I'm glad I don't have my hopes built up for a Ford pension. And feel for anyone that does!

Insert hysterically laughing emoji here.

It's only going to get worse. So many Ford employees have quit or retired since they are tired of the same bs. Many of who's left are either sick of upper management's incompetence, angry about the injustice in bonuses and merit increases, or angry about the forced vaccination to stay employed.

The hard working Ford employee is a thing of the past. (based on my observations)

@1zgg you got that right. Since around 2007 I have been observing the Sync clusterF via a friend working in the area.
The repeated cycle is Ford providing squishy specs to supplier/partner. Ford not listening to supplier/partner when they are advised of issues with the specs (protocol mismatches etc), Ford repeatedly changing the specs, Ford blaming the supplier/partner when the work product delivered according to Ford specs doesn’t work reliably, The relationship with the supplier/partner crumbles and Ford selects another partner/supplier.
The root causes of Ford not realizing that they are not the smartest guy in the room and Ford being incapable of designing reliable software and firmware are never addressed.
The whole time when the Sync team knew they were producing unreliable systems, their management was proclaiming it was flawlessly working. 15 years on nothing has changed. To make matters worse, the flawed designs are used as a basis to build other software at Ford. How will this crumbling mess be fixed? Oh I know by hiring two Apple execs.

We can't even deploy software flawlessly to our laptops and you think we are going to be able to deploy updates to our vehicles? Keep dreaming!

That's great sarcasm when it's hard to distinguish from an actual opinion. :-) The tip-off for me was the "hiring top talent from apple" since that's only for high level management and only 1-2 people at that, it's not the hands-on people that would be doing the actual work. The view I'm getting from my seat on the inside is that FCG's better be the great talent needed for success since at least 80% of the hires are in that category. And those who aren't are most definitely not coming from FAANG or other US companies but instead are from low labor cost locations in distant lands.

You have no trust in our software and data? I disagree and you would too if you noticed that we are hiring top talent from the likes of apple and other high tech outfits.

Don't worry about it.

The everyday American doesn't read news from places like associated press, reuters, WSJ etc. They stick to automotive magazines and opinion driven media. Ford spends so much in advertising with those brands, we're a cash cow to their business and in trade they'll never expose stuff like this :)

Imagine being Tesla lmao, entire media industry blitz and global news cycles of impending corporate downfall for a recalling something like a fa-t sound generator.

Why would anyone trust software written by Ford? We admit we don’t have that kind of talent…
