Thread regarding State Farm Insurance layoffs

Replacement dynamics

We're becoming increasingly disorganized. Is it normal that for two colleagues who left, there has been no replacement for almost four months?
In the meantime, of course, those of us who are still here are doing their job.

@5uti-what a d-mb post. Record production in Auto, HO, Life and Busniness Ins. A 17 BILLION capital gain. And you think expenses had a larger impact? You should have stayed in school…...

@1iwi SF primarily made that profit through the massive loss of employees that they no longer have to pay benefits and wages. The company wants its policyholders and the rest of the people on the outside the company to think that they are thriving and gaining so much new business, but the reality is that the company has just eliminated a ton of debt by not having as many employees on the books.

@1zrx Look at the home page, every day a 1/2 dozen retirement announcements that do not include those leaving for greener pastures that are not retirement age. The exodus is happening, ask anyone in claims how many of their peers have left in the last few months.

@1zrx, we have to wait for a new post in April regarding the departed folks. There are still 2 more pay checks in March, and the bonus check comes at the end of March.

Wait. Isn’t everyone leaving after the bonus this month? That is what everyone said is going to happen.

Its becoming a very uncompetitive industry for labor. All these companies are pretending no one wants to work, which is only partially right. People do not want to work if they are going to struggle just as much as when they didnt work.

Leaders can pretend to fix pay on competitors, all of which are doing worse than us, and throw their hands up at how no one wants to do 100 times the work and triple the stress, as a retail for a few thousand less a year. Bottom line, if State Farm paid the market clearing rate for labor, there would be no shortage or people working. It tends to be just the opposite when you pay enough.

Problem is, you simply cannot get a group of executives in a room together and have them all agree to make less so they can get REQUIRED customer facing workers they need to continue their core business. Its clear theyve decided to ride it all out as long as they can....which rests on our shoulders.

This is why SF can have the best year ever, but have it also be one of the worst years ever for anyone working in claims.

I know departments that have been in "not officially" mandatory OT for over a year. See they cant force you to do it, but make it an intimidating process to not work OT non stop.

I guess when it comes down to it, SF only has so much money. That makes sense. So not enough is left over for core business employees who face customers so we have to do more with less so those above us can have a comfy happy satisfying life.

Keep doing their work, and there is no need to replace them. See how that works? Don't overwork yourselves.

I love working claims. I show up a little late, pretend to work for a few hours, mostly playing tetras, talk to my woman in phone so it looks like working. So ez to fool management clowns. Sometimes when no one around I wipe myself on stupidvisors keyboard. Stink much?

Target corporation just announced they are raising starting wage up to $24/hr for entry level positions. That is $50k a year, full time. Retail jobs pay is starting to look real attractive. I would take a $10k annual pay cut to reduce 50% of stress.

we lost over 60 people in our area and they hired 3 ...

they complain they cant hire people because people do not want to work , nope it is because the pay is too low in this industry , other companies pay alot more to start

This should make you feel even better but State Farm had a record profit year of 17.1 billion dollars! Notice that the Executive office has not been bragging about that and sending out email after email about it....why because you've had the worst year of your life, we need to hire 4000-5000 people and mandatory overtime as far at the eye can see. They bent you over!!!! Ohh and people have forgotten SF is a Mutual Company and really shouldn't be turning those kind of profits without releasing a dividend back to all policyholders due to the excessive profits.

Injury CS here , we went 6 months when 3 people left the company on my team. We reduced PTO availability and absorbed all the claim inventory. Claims leadership has to be the worst in the company.
