Nike CEO 5th Most Overpaid in S&P 500

Some people here have mentioned that Nike executives are granted disproportionately high and outrageous compensation packages. It’s true and now officially confirmed at the CEO level. According to investor advocacy group As You Sow in 2021 Nike’s CEO was the 5th most overpaid in the entire S&P 500. Making him a literal One Percenter!

When will this kind of immoral and outrageous behavior stop? Only when shareholders demand it stop. Last time NKE shareholders voted we came close to rejecting this type of wanton greed, but not close enough. When you get your annual proxies and instructions for voting, do it!

In addition while Nike continues to lecture us about inequality, be that brave soul who dares bring up economic inequality. Ask our leaders how paying a CEO more than 500x the average employee’s salary fits into Nike’s vision of “equality”. Then demand a real answer beyond what would make a politician proud.

As always pay attention to what people DO rather than what they SAY. You simply cannot be a legitimate supporter of “equality” when you’re being paid hundreds of times more than the average employee and thousands of times more than the people who make your products. This is another blatant example of Nike’s increasingly visible hypocrisy. Economic inequality is every bit as important as other types of inequality. Some might even say it’s more important since economic inequality is at the very root and forms the foundation of most other types of inequality.

I’m sure the DE&I team will quickly jump on this issue, right? Right??? Yeah I didn’t think so. DE&I at Nike is an obligatory function that wouldn’t touch this issue with a 30-foot pole. Telling the emperor he isn’t wearing any clothes has never been the key to career success.

OP, are you going to be that brave soul, as you called it? I sure the answer is NO! Stop asking others to do what you want done, then. We are all aware of this issue. Personally, I could not care less how much money others are making. Why would I?
